{Dare to Wear} Haute Hue for a Hike

how to wear pink jeans

It’s the end of the first installment of Dare to Wear, the new blog series where we dare to wear the same piece three weeks in a row!  Over the last three weeks I’ve taken my hot-pink pants in three different style directions – preppy, business chic, and now a look perhaps too haute for a hike?

This shade certainly will not blend in outdoors and this outfit isn’t really for hiking. It’s for looking fabulous this fall – isn’t that enough?

Make a bright shade more fall friendly by styling with more subdued shades – think oatmeal, light gray, camel, and olive. Swap out the heeled booties for something more comfortable and rocky-path friendly if you’re looking to take a stroll in the woods. IMG_8731

For this look we paired the hot-pink jeans with an army-green jacket over an oatmeal-colored sweater. The hair braid tied with a ribbon hair tie acts as added accessory.

Remix: High-Low Dress Turned Skirt

jessie holeva philly fashion blogger

Hello and happy Friday! This month has been so busy – busy in a good way, but busy! When I started my recent column Friday Find I thought I’d have time to show you my latest buy of the week, but guess what. This budget-fashionista does more outfit remixing than buying, so the Friday Find will still exist, but will probably be under a new name and not weekly.

And so, now it’s time to introduce to you the new post you’ll be seeing every Friday, and I’m not sure what to call it.

Should it be Style Remix or Trend Remix?

Once a month I’ll introduce to you an item in my wardrobe and every week will show a new way to style it. So this month’s remix will incorporate an amazing high-low dress from Spiegel. They recently treated me to a little shopping spree (all the items I got are linked at the bottom) and I fell in love with this dress! For my first remix I decided to show how to make this dress appear as a skirt by adding a sweater from Speigel. I LOVE this dress because it feels like something you’d get a high-end boutique but at a skinny-budget price point. And speaking of price, click here and snag 20% off!

The sweater adds warmth for this hot-cold weather and the necklace and turban add some metal to and really make it an outfit. Check back next week to see how I remix the dress!

Canadian Tuxedo: Rihanna’s New Uniform?

Rihanna Loves Denim

Denim is one of those trends that will never go out of style. Denim killed it in the 80’s, was the THING in the 90’s, and is certainly resurfacing in everyone’s wardrobes present day! Our girl Rihanna is a total fan of the denim on denim trend and rocks it quite frequently… but always in a unique and quirky way! Whether it’s your dad’s vintage jean jacket or a pair of jean shorts you picked up from the thrift store, make this trend your own!

This jean look by RiRi is my favorite because it’s not too in your face and is flirty and bright enough for Spring!

Rihanna was seen leaving Giorgio Baldi Restaurant in Malibu, CA

Copy this look with Delia’s Studded Denim Shorts  (on sale for only $9.50) and this Forever 21 Oversized Chambray Shirt ($24.80). Throw on a pastel colored shirt, a fun headband and some funky heels and you’ll be ready for a casual night on the town!

Can you say fun, funky and completely risky! I’m not saying COMPLETELY commit to mimicking this look, but the top and bottom can be matched with other pieces from your wardrobe to create a fun outfit for clubbing or music festivals! On sale for $17.99, this Delia’s Denim Sweetheart Bustier goes great with high-waisted pants for just enough coverage and hiding that navel area! And as for the skirt, I am obsessed with this Miss KL denim skater skirt. (did I mention it’s 41% off the original price…score!) At first glance, the skirt doesn’t appear like denim, but the unique pattern  makes it totally wearable for casual Fridays, brunches in the city, or going for a walk.

Don’t be afraid to commit to the denim-on-denim trend. It’s easy, inexpensive and something you always want to have in your closet.

Celebrity Trend: Crazy Hair Colors! Would You Rock It?

celebrity trend: lauren conrad pink hair from paint

Last week we posted about Khloe Kardashian Odom’s cray-cray hair part. She took to Twitter to show it off and now Lauren Conrad Instagrammed her pink locks. What’s going on with celebs social sharing their colorful tresses? We’re not mad at it, but we’re not sure about rocking the style ourselves.

celebrity trend: lauren conrad pink hair from paint

LC’s wasn’t on purpose. Her pretty blonde hue got splashed with paint at the festival of colors called Holi Festival.

As you may recall, Nicki Minaj made this colorful style popular a couple years back. Celebs clearly love their colors!

We don’t recommend using paint to snag the style, but we do recommend Pop of Color by Rita Hazen spray made for your hair ($18), aka the same one  Khloe Kardashian. It’s temporary, as cotton candy hair may not be something you’d like to commit to.

An even more fab and frugal find is Beyond The Zone Color Bombz Air Head Pink. It’s only around $6 and can be bought at Sally Beauty.

So would you do this do? Comment below!

Spring Beauty: How to Wear Orange Lipstick

Celebrity Beauty Trend: Orange Lips (as seen on essica Alba, Solange, Kourtney Kardashian, Olivia Wilde, Kirsten Dunst

Looking for a new way to upgrade your look for spring? Try a new lipstick to brighten your beauty.

Last summer the orange lip made its big comeback, and let me tell you, I was a bit hesitant to stow away my go-to pinks and reds and let the mandarin madness takeover. I’m sure I wasn’t the only one, right? Well orange is coming back in a big way this spring and I think it’s time we should all try this trend out. Turns out (to my surprise) that orange looks amazing on every skin tone (!!!), not to mention these cirtus hues have the innate ability to make us feel happy (just a little added bonus). Oh! Also you’ll be 100% on trend, so it’s a win win win!

If you’re still not sure, lets take a look at the runway: models at Moschino SS13 show perfected the orange pucker, while keeping the rest of the makeup subtle (this is key when doing a bold colored lip). Needless to say they all looked amazing!

Still unsure? How about some celeb inspiration? Who could forget how stunning Jessica Alba looked at this years Golden Globes?! She was featured multiple best dressed lists and look: Orange lip!!

orange lips

Several celebs have developed the orange crush and it’s a knockout on everyone, from fair to dark skin tones:

Like Kirsten Dunst, choose a bright orange that has some subtle red hues. Topshop has the perfect shade of orange lip paint.

Follow in the footsteps of Olivia Wilde, Solange KnowlesKourtney Kardashian and go for a burnt orange. This shade looks perfect on your skin tone, with just the right amount of color without going overboard.

Budget Buy: NYX by NYX Lipstick in Indie Flick, $5.99

Pick out shades with hues of blue, which will balance out the orange color with your natural lip color. Solange looks amazing in this hue and you can too with MAC Pro Longwear Lipcreme in Good to Go.

No matter your skin tone, or even the season, it’s always time to try this trend! Being an unexpected upgrade from the traditional red and universally flattering, there’s no reason not to try!

Trend Bite: How to Remove Lipstick

Trend Bite: Remove Lip Color Using Papertowel

Trend Obsessed: Miley Cyrus, Jessie J & Cher Lloyd Love Striped Skinnies

Miley Cyrus, Cher LLoyd, and Jessie J. wearing Motel Rocks Striped Skinnies, $90

Miley Cyrus is campaigning for a new trend to take off. Thick, bold horizontal stripes are virtually on every piece of clothing she has been spotted wearing recently. And it’s clearly catching on, with celeb sighting include Rihanna, Emma Stone, Nicki Minaj, and Heidi Klum are in on the trend and Jessie J & Cher Lloyd even have the same exact pants as Miss Miley, $90 from Motel Rocks. While vertical stripes are known to elongate figures and be flattening on everyone, we can’t help but think of how eerily similar she looks to a Tim Burton character.  But black and white are blowing up for spring and pants, they’re the new statement piece!

You can try this trend with pants or a skirt with vertical stripes and pair them with a solid colored blouse or T-shirt. The stripes allow you to look longer and draw attention to your newly-extended self.

Celeb: Motel Skinny Jordan Jean in Black and White Stripe, $90.00 at Singer 22.

Steal: L’Amour Nanette Lepore Stars and Stripes Jeggings, $25.00 at JCPenney.

Looking for something a little more refined? Pinstripes are always classy, a slimmer line having the same effect. Try both and figure out which stripe suits you best. Afraid to fully commit to the striped trend? Choose accessories with stripes like handbags, scarves and headbands. It’s a great way to get used to the look in small doses.

How will you wear your stripes? Join the fashion convo on Twitter!
