Beauty Battle: Gel vs Liquid Eyeliner

Ding ding ding! New year, new battle ladies and this time it’s all eyes on eyeliner. The newest and trendiest eyeliner choices are gel and liquid, but which liner comes out on top? I’m here to break down the pros and cons to help you choose your champion.
beauty battle: liquid vs gel liner

Gel Time

First up we have gel liner, a super long lasting, very pigmented liner that comes in a pot. Thicker color and the ability to smudge and blend comes from using a gel. Usually best suited for those with an unsteady hand because the lines created with gel are forgiving and luckily, mistakes are barely noticeable. This is perfect if you are going for the smoky effect, as seen on Angelina Jolie.

Here you can see how her liner is not exact, but heavier and a tad smudged, which gives her a mysterious look.

Our Pick: L’Oreal’s Infallible Gel Lacquer Liner is perfect: long lasting and under $10! Continue reading…

Retail Review: Convertible LBD Now on SALE

When you’re on a skinny budget you gotta make the most out of your wardrobe, so that’s why I’m a big fan of basics. A little black dress, turned tunic, turned top? That’s three basics in one!

Revelation By Me recently sent me a convertible dress to try out. I gotta say, at first I was like “I don’t really know if I like this,” but then I got creative!

The tag displayed three ways to wear, and they were cool, but not necessarily my style. I played dress up and now, I’m all about this LB (convertible) D.

Check out how I styled it up.

Tag: Orig. $90.00, *UPDATE: Now $50.00.*

Look 1 – Cocktail Hour

To achieve this look I added length by letting out the draw strings on the sides. For the neckline I crossed the lace straps over my bust and twisted. I then wrapped the twisted straps around my neck and tucked. I think this neckline classes up the look creates a visually-interested effect – no necklaces required! I feel very Charlotte from Sex & the City. You agree?

Look 2 - Island Escape

This is a super comfortable and effortless look. I wrapped lace straps around my waistline (giving me more of an hourglass look) and pulled side draw strings up a little for a shorter hemline. I pair with an island-vibe necklace (parent’s bought for me on their cruise) and a wooden bangle. I was wearing turquoise sandals too.

Look 3 - After Hours

This look is my fave and will be worn often! I pulled the draw strings all the way in, tied and tucked. For the straps, I simply made it like a halter, but let the excess hang over my shoulders.

This is perfect for hitting the club, out for drinks with your girls or even a hot date. I paired with white jeans for a summertime edge, but would also want to try top with a wide -leg light wash or black cigarette jeans and block heels for a streamline look.

At first I thought $90 was a little high ( I’m on a very skinny budget!). Now that I’ve modeled my new dress I think $90 is more than fair. It’s so versatile, and comfortable! If you’re going on a vacay this is the must-have item. It’s perfect for the indecisive fashionista. You won’t have to overpack, but have one piece for whatever you end up doing!

So how hungry am I for this item? STARVING!

Kate Middleton Deemed Outfit Repeater; Get Her Shoes!

I freakin’ LOVE Kate Middleton – not because she’s new royalty or nice, or sweet, but because she re-wears her wardrobe. Lots of her clothes may be designer (notably Sara Burton creations under the Alexander McQueen label), but she reworks her pieces and often it’s the next day!!

This makes me feel pretty pumped since I wore the same nude peep-toes three times in a row for tv appearances. At the time I was like “I hope they don’t notice,” but I was also like “these under thirty-dollar shoes go awesome with every outfit!”

Kate Middleton has officially made being an outfit repeater trendy and I am utterly grateful! I used to worry about having lots of Facebook pics in the same outfit (I know, I clearly have no life), but Kate goes to huge events in the same thing.  Look at her repeating her nude Louboutin’s.

Okay, let’s get on task. The Duchess of Cambridge has been repeating nude heels ( like me!!!) and ShoeDazzle has created a pair just like Kate’s.

Stella & Dot Scoop: Summer Steal on Leather Bracelets

Stella & Dot is pretty much an AMAZING jewelry company with the fashionista on a skinny budget in mind. They tend to have great sales, carry cool pieces that are super versatile (lots of wear = less money per wear!), and offer sweet shopping incentives (hosting a party for your girlfriends = FREE jewelry!)

My always stylish friend/makeup artist Linda J. Marcy is an independent stylist for Stella & Dot. This means she’s always got the 411 on their latest deals! Linda is sharing her insider Stella & Dot shop scoop. Read on!

There are a lot of steals from Stella & Dot right now! The upcoming Fall Collection kicks off this month, so sadly a lot of favorite styles have been discontinued. One of my favorites.

I wear this bracelet all the time!  It’s tough looking, but still ladylike and it follows the bright-color trend.  It’s leather and a steal at only $19! (reg. $39) . The teal version is already sold out–so get the purple while you can!

Like Linda’s pick? Leave a comment showing her some love and check out her page on Stella & Dot. If you’d like to score some Stella & Dot jewelry for FREE leave a comment saying you’d like to host a party!

Buzzin: Lauren Conrad’s ‘The Beauty Department’

A HUGE part of blogging is reading! I read tons of magazines, product reviews, blogging tips, and more importantly … OTHER BLOGS! Blogging is a community and ya gotta support others adding their tips and opinionan to the blogosphere. Okay, sorry I’m gushing about blogs, but it’s like a sisterhood and other blogs inspire me. This entry is dedicated to my newest favorite – The Beauty Department!

Lauren Conrad is a genius and used her fame for good. Instead of being an untalented reality star, she’s an “entrepreneur” (her word, not mine). She realized what she wanted and used reality tv to market herself – she’s her own brand ambassador. Not only does she design and write fashion books, but she’s behind a mecca of beauty knowledge TheBeautyDepartment.com. What makes her even smarter is that she enlisted two true experts,  Celebrity Makeup Artist Amy Nadine & Hair Guru Kristen Ess, sure to serve up stellar beauty ideas and tips! Amy Nadine

This is totally my newest obsession!

It’s got fashion/ hair/ makeup/ manicure /grooming tips and it’s so visually interesting.

Have you checked it out yet? Do you LOVE it!?!?! Comment with what ya think!

Look Skinnier on a Skinny Budget With One Item

Wearing a belt the right way is better than Spanx for lookin’ a few lbs thinner. No, for real! It slims your midsection and pulls the focus to the most smallest part of your silhouette.

A black belt is a wardrobe staple, but what I’m really craving for summer is a cognac-colored belt. I can wear it with a tunic or a flowing-floral dress.

Trend: Summery -Slimming Belt

Hungry: cognac colored  and textured!

Tag: Fish-Tail Belt, $5.80 at Forever 21.

I love this belt’s woven design and the color contrast, but there are a few more options on the menu for your skinny budget.

Tag: Braided-Leatherette Belt, $7.80 at Forever 21.

I’m all about the braid, but this “Warm Weather Belt” (yeah, that’s what the store calls it!) has a nautical feel. Hmmm… so hard to pick just one!
