Beauty Battle: Gel vs Liquid Eyeliner

Ding ding ding! New year, new battle ladies and this time it’s all eyes on eyeliner. The newest and trendiest eyeliner choices are gel and liquid, but which liner comes out on top? I’m here to break down the pros and cons to help you choose your champion.
beauty battle: liquid vs gel liner

Gel Time

First up we have gel liner, a super long lasting, very pigmented liner that comes in a pot. Thicker color and the ability to smudge and blend comes from using a gel. Usually best suited for those with an unsteady hand because the lines created with gel are forgiving and luckily, mistakes are barely noticeable. This is perfect if you are going for the smoky effect, as seen on Angelina Jolie.

Here you can see how her liner is not exact, but heavier and a tad smudged, which gives her a mysterious look.

Our Pick: L’Oreal’s Infallible Gel Lacquer Liner is perfect: long lasting and under $10! Continue reading…

#4U2Read: Floral Crowns & Bar-Cart Cravings

Hi there and Happy Sunday. This week was struck with tragedy in Colorado. I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about the victims in the movie theater shooting and am deeply saddened by such an unbelievable event. It’s hard not to think about it and watch every piece of news on the matter, but sometimes you have to step away from all that heartbreak and give yourself a break. Hope these four blog posts I found add a little light into your day. We all could use a little distraction.

If you enjoy the articles below, be sure to share on Twitter using the hashtag #4U2Read.

Showoff your inner flower child. Floral crowns are in full bloom (check mine out from Freed Love in this vid). Now you can craft your own using a headband and some fun flowers. It’s very Lana-Del-Rey-esque – Fuji Files

Bar carts are all the rage in fashionista living (I’ve been dying to DIY one!) and here are ten essentiasl for a super-fab mobile mini bar. – Glitter Guide

Translucent accessories are trending and this DIY see-through clutch looks so luxe, I can’t even believe it’s a DIY. Bonus: this is modeled after a Charlotte Olympia bag I LOVED, but HATED the price ($995 -eek!). So, the fact that there’s an awesome how-to version is seriously exciting me. (Thanks Stripes & Sequins for linking to this! ) – Sprinkles in Springs

Are you a bride on a budget? Topshop now carries bridal by Richard Nicoll and everything is under $600. – The Budgetista

#4U2Read: Nail Necessities & A Blog For Boyfriends

Hi there and Happy Sunday! I just woke up (it’s after 1pm!) and SO needed that sleep. This week included filming a slew of TV segments, a blog seminar with the super-star blogger Meg of Mimi+Meg (also got to meet Lara of The Glossarie – love that site!), deep cleaning my apartment, missing my roomie/boyfriend – he was in LA for a few days, and dancing my booty off last night at a friend’s wedding.

Now that I’m caught up on sleep and missed yoga class (what else is new?), it’s time for me to share my top four reads of the week! Hope you like them and feel the urge to share with your fashionable friends – hashtag #4U2Read.

1. Save money and DIY your manicure ( I  haven’t had a mani in three years!). Here are some tools worthy of wanting/needing/buying. – The Glossarie

2. Virgin America is getting new uniforms by Banana Republic. My boyfriend just flew Virgin (relatively new airline to Philly) and they’ve already got cool lights, good music, and video games on your own little personal TV.  - Fashionista

3. This next blog I just discovered and don’t love it for me, but for my boyfriend (sorry to type about him so much – I just missed him). It’s for men, but not metro men, guys that wanna look good, but sleek and not over the top. They’ve got a whole section just for sneakers. Check out these Batman Chuck Taylor kicks – I wouldn’t even be embarrassed to be seen with someone wearing these.  – High Snobiety

4. What’s better than me linking to one of my favorite reads? Linking to one of my favorite blog’s favorite reads. Let’s get inside and see what they’re reading. The list includes an awesome interior makeover I’m really coveting  – Mimi+Meg

Sale-Rack Report: Beach-Chic Pants Under $20

Can you believe that it’s already the end of June? With temperatures rising to scorching, with a few days reaching into sizzling, summer is here and here to stay. With Independence Day this week, many of us (myself not included, unfortunately) are off to the beach for some tanning, swimming, barbecuing, and catching up with friends and family. While laying out in a bikini is fun for a while, sometimes you just have to put some clothes on.

Or you really should. Like when you go to a restaurant, regardless of how casual and beachy the atmosphere may be – please cover up ( Ashbury Park NJ now enforces no bathing suits on the boardwalk). Loose linen pants are the perfect choice for staying cool and comfortable at the beach.

Tag: The Beach Pant in Linen, $44.00 $19.99 @ Victoria’s Secret.
Take Note: I found a similar pair in white too.
You’ll be in good company, with everyone from Katie Holmes (sorry to hear about her divorce!) to Vanessa Hudgens rocking the summer style out and about. Pair your linen pant with a fitted tee and beachy waves for an effortlessly beautiful warm weather look. Happy Fourth of July!

Are Your Ready For This Jelly? Shoes Under $50!

Remember those jelly shoes you had as a little kid? They came in pink, purple, orange, and even had sparkly designs. If I saved my old pair, my eight-year-old self would fit in them, but my foot has grown a bit since then, as has my taste.

I still like that youthful vibe jelly shoes embody, but prefer the more chic styles the shoe is now available in. Jelly shoes are now wedges, flip flops with bows, and even come in flat forms with ankle straps – very on trend!

Celeb sightings include some of the most stylish ladies. Katy Perry, Anne Hathaway, Rihanna, Kim Kardashian have all been spotted looking juicy in jelly. Try the trend with rolled-up skinny jeans or one of your favorite summer dresses.

#4U2Read: Zap Zits w/ Cocktails & DIY Day-Glow Nails

Hello, and happy Sunday! Hope you slept in and are smelling something amazing cooking in the kitchen. My boyfriend is whipping up who knows what, but I suspect it’s eggs (hopefully with goat cheese!). While you eat something delish on what’s hopefully your day of rest, here are a few fashionable reads I hand selected for you. Well, two include videos.

Learn how to pose perfectly in pictures.  – Dean Street Society via Hello Style

Narciso Rodriguez is designing a capsule collection for Kohl’s.  – Mad For Fashion … For Less

Sale-Rack Report: Free People Flutter Tee

Hipster or not, Free People is an addiction – a dangerous addiction. Because Free People? Not so free. Between the cute clothes and not-so-cute price tags, it’s pretty easy to drop the equivalent of a semester’s textbooks worth of cash in one Free People spree.

Je n’aime pas… Luckily, what is for sale often ends up on sale. This week’s steal comes to us from Free People and it’s cute, versatile, and costs less than a quarter of what it did a few weeks ago!

Tag: Short Sleeve Lurex Flutter Tee, $128 $29.95 @ Free People.
This flutter tee is perfect for pairing with high-waisted shorts for a casual day look or a high waisted bandage skirt for a night out on the town. It also works for a variety of body types! For the flat-chested girl, the folds create the illusion of curves and add volume to a small frame. For the curvier girl, the flowy material skims is flattering and forgiving – no need to worry about that extra scoop of Ben & Jerry’s!

Clothing Swap Party Time!

Looking for some new threads to add to your wardrobe? Duh! If you are reading this blog, odds are you like clothes, and shoes, and bags, and fashion of course! Well I’ve just attended my first clothing swap party and it was a total hit.

Grab your stylish girlfriends, bring gently worn clothes you’re not into anymore, spread them out, start swapping, and help yourself to a cocktail. It’s the perfect girl’s night. You get rid of the excess clothes in your closet, snag some new additions (hopefully one will be an item you’ve envied), and have fun without spending any cash money.

This picture is only a few of the items I walked away with. I also got a few more dresses, a white tee, jeans, and some Lia Sophia jewelry (my friend Kristen’s mom used to sell it, score!  – p.s. Kristen shoots all the Trend Bite videos, new one will be up next week!).

Kate, Kristen, & Me (Jessie) Swapping Clothes / Wearing Wigs!

It was so fun that we’re planning another one. I vote we create a signature cocktail for it. Who’s in? And, do you know of any fashion-forward drinks? A fashionista? Or a a skinny girl something or other? I love Bethany Frankel and I also love the word skinny (calories & budget).

Have you ever had a swap party? Comment below or Facebook me!

Would You Buy? Bandeau Bras on a Budget

Bandeau bra time! I love wearing loose clothes, not too loose, but I like sheer shirts and and those tanks with the wide arm holes. A regular strapless bra just doesn’t look right with this style.

I’m realizing in many of my blog posts I mention pairing items with a bandeau, but I don’t even own one! So, it is officially time for me to get one, or more!

Tag: Printed Bandeau, Was $9.50, Now $6.99 @ Aerie.

So help a girl out! Should I stick with solids, stripes, fun prints, lace, or buy one of each? Comment below & tweet @trendhungryblog!

Make Your Bust Bigger With This Bikini

It’s already the middle of July and I haven’t even blogged about bikinis! I know, I suck. But what doesn’t suck is this ruffle bikini via Target. Not only are ruffles trendy, but do wonders for a tiny bust. It instantly adds volume without looking fake or like you’re wearing a bra (I hate those bikini tops with underwire and padding).

Trends: Floral, Ruffled Bandeau

Tag: Mossimo Women’s Two-Piece Bikini Swimsuit with Ruffles – Blue/Brown Floral Print, $19.99 per piece at Target.

Lots of designers are showing ruffled bandeau tops, so get the look for $40.00 is a steal.

Here’s another that’s a little more pricy, but it’s Juicy Couture and it’s on sale – under $100!

Tag: Ruffle-Skirted Bandeau Bikini, Top Orig. $87.00, Now $43.00, Bottom Orig. $98.00, Now $49.00 at Neiman Marcus.

If you want to go the designer route Marc by Marc Jacobs has an AMAZING bikini on sale for $106.00. It’s not really skinny enough for my budget, but if you’re going to splurge, better it be on sale.
