Today I’m in NYC for the IFBCon!! So, I enlisted my Philly FABB sis and new blog friend Jade to take over Trend Hungry for the day. She’s got great eclectic style and knows how to keep it cheap and chic. Plus she loves thrifting – love that!! Oh, and if you’re a Philly girl, like me and Jade, check out these 5 vintage hot spots I scouted out for Philly.com. Okay, without further adieu, I bring you THE Style Wallflower! – Jessie
Hello everyone! My name is Jade Barnes and I am a lifestyle public relations specialist by day & the Style Wallflower by night. I enjoy writing about celebrity style, current trends and local Philadelphia fashion events. I am very excited to share my “ball on a budget” shopping tips with the Trend Hungry Community. Now let’s get to saving.
Research your local thrift stores. I used to live in Society Hill and near adorable vintage boutiques on Fabric Row and Passyunk Ave. Two of my favorite stores included Philly AIDS Thrift and Retrospect. I was able to find gorgeous sequined tunics and silk shirts for a fraction of what the retail price would have been. Vintage finds are always my favorite!
Don’t buy only for the sale. Just because the sale is $9.99 doesn’t mean buy before you try: Zara is having a major sale right now and I must have walked into the fitting room with at least six items, but left with half of them. Trying on pieces that have slashed price tags will help you see if you REALLY need these items and if they fit you properly. I left Zara with black and white blouses appropriate for work and on trend for Spring 2013. I felt happy to be on trend and happy to have only spent $25 on three items!
Hello there, Trend Hungry readers! My name is Mecca Nuri – a Philadelphia wardrobe stylist and blog owner of StyledOutLoud. I just want to thank Jessie for granting me the opportunity to share with you my sale-shopping strategies as well as my favorite sale items of right now!
I am usually not an online shopper; I tend to stick to the good old fashioned in-store experience. However for sale purposes I have been checking out the virtual racks. What stores are on my radar, you ask? As of lately I enjoy ASOS, JC Penney and Urban Outfitters. Here are a few sale-shopping strategies I go by when making purchases, be it online or in-store:
- DO know your budget. Prior to your shopping experience, make sure that you come up with a budget for your sale shopping and stick to it.
- DON’T get sale/clearance happy. Sometimes we find so many awesome items that are marked down and naturally, we get excited. Remember that you have a budget so try to make sensible purchases.
- DO look for student discounts. Not a student? Then see how else you can save by using coupon code websites such as RetailMeNot.com.
Hey, fabulous Trend Hungry readers! It’s Katelyn here from www.theskinnyblondegirl.com, a blog that offers a chic Canadian perspective on personal style, makeup, beauty, and just about everything in between. I’m so honored to be posting today on Trend Hungry and am very excited to share with you some online shopping advice and the latest deals I’ve scoped out on my favorite shopping sites.
When I’m shopping online, I always hit up the sale and clearance sections first. While shopping in store is fun, I love that I can grab my favorite trends without breaking the bank and without leaving my couch. I usually stick to neutrals because A) I have a weakness for anything black and white and B) they’re way less likely to go out of style within the next few seasons.

Ladies – how many of you are dieting or vowing to exercise more this New Year? While healthy resolutions are always a good thing, it’s the UNhealthy ones that truly bother me. And when it comes to wanting to lose weight, a healthy aspiration can quickly turn unhealthy, before you even know it. As a veteran TV personality, author, columnist and someone who regularly goes on TV or appears at events giving fashion advice to women, I’m not blind to the fact that the fashion industry – and Hollywood for that matter – perpetuates an unnatural perception of what a woman’s body IS and should look like. While Jennifer Hudson may have lost her curves through a Weight Watchers diet and daily exercise with a trainer, others turn to starvation, excessive exercising and even worse methods – to get that coveted size zero frame.
So, after a recent appearance on the Dr. Oz Show, I received an email that motivated me to create a movement encouraging ALL women to finally accept and love the skin they are in. The email said “thank you for speaking to us – the REAL women of the world – and for not being a size zero.”

Personally, I do most of my shopping online because it saves me time & money. If you look, there’s plenty of discount codes/ free shipping codes always floating the web. However, just because something is on sale, doesn’t mean you should buy it. I usually like to find trendier pieces on sale, or an item I’ve had my eye on for a while!
Hello Trend Hungry readers! I’m Melissa, a digital marketing freelancer and blogger at MelissaAlam.com, my personal website full of quirky pop culture and internet finds. I also write for two.one.five magazine in my spare time and cover different fashion events and happenings around the great city of Philadelphia!
As a self-proclaimed shopaholic always on a budget, I love a good deal. I can usually be found doing some online window-shopping, scouring section after section of my favorite websites (see below) and looking up online coupon codes for even cheaper discounts. My favorite sites to check (before and after my shopping carts are full with new things) are RetailMeNot and BradsDeals – two places that give you coupon codes and updates on different sales going on.
