{Winter Escape} Tropical Travel Essentials Under $50

All I’ve been wanting is a winter escape, to bask in the sun’s glorious vitamin-D rays. Is that too much to ask for?

Planning a tropical trip? It’s difficult finding summer clothing this time of year in store, so for this style challenge online shopping is the way to go.

I love experiencing the East Coast’s four seasons, but Philly is getting a little too chilly for me. Feeling the same way? Trade in your heavy coats, scarves, and snow boots for some tropical travel essentials for your next getaway and think warm thoughts.

{Steal of the Week} Block-Heel Sandals

Steal of the week_Block Heels_Comfortable sandals

I can’t believe I’m about to say this, but I think that sky-high heels are on their way out. Before you freak, hear me out. Maybe it’s just because I’m getting older but I find myself more drawn to structured mid-heels instead of the five-inch platforms or stilettos I used to wear. (Don’t get me wrong, I still love sexy shoe) Well, thankfully I have a new place in my heart a different summer shoe style and they are literally all the rage right now. They’re cute, structured and comfortable (above all else!).  Check out my tips and top picks of the cutest chunky-heeled sandals on the web!

Steal of the week_Block Heels_Comfortable sandals

You can find these kicks in the shopping widget below.

Here in Colorado, where we have over 300 days of sun each year, after work happy hours outside are the thing to do. Thankfully I work in an office where it’s super casual but I still like to bring the style. These shoes help you stay chic in the office and still be appropriate for an after work outing downtown. With the block heel style  you still get a little bit of height to make your gams look longer, but you don’t have to sacrifice comfort. Feel free to strut your stuff all day and night in these sturdy shoes.

I love buying shoes that are multipurpose. With these types of shoes, you can wear them with anything from skinny jeans, skirts to dresses. They’ll pretty much sass up any outfit you put on. Sass and comfort? This is the perfect combination in the world of fashion, right?!

But my favorite way to wear them? Boyfriend jeans cuffed with a cute patterened top.

Check out my favorite block heels below. And in keeping with true “Steal of the Week” style, none of these beauties are over $50.

Insipration for this post came from Refinery 29’s feature on Items You Can Wear From Day to Night and guess what made the list – you guessed it,  block-heel sandals.

So how would you rock this trend? Do tell in the comments below.

{Steal of the Week} White Denim

Steal of the week_White denim_spring trends_bargain_frugal

White denim is one of those things that will never go out of style. Everyone likes to say that you can only wear white between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Well, it’s time to throw that rule out the window. Wearing white is always in style – winter, spring, summer and fall. WEAR IT!

Steal of the week_White denim_spring trends_bargain_frugal {image via 1, 2}

Many trend guides are showcasing white denim from the usually suspects,  Hudson & Citizens of Humanity, ringing in at well over $150 a pop. That just simply does not jive with my frugalista ways and luckily for all of you, I have done some hunting and found some white-denim staples for under $100. Just because you’re paying less doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice quality. For me, splurging on denim is okay as I know they’ll last more than a few seasons,  but realistically I won’t spend over $75 for any one item. So below are some items that are still feel high-end without the high price tag.

White denim is extremely versatile and works on any body type. So what I’m saying here is that you absolutely need to get your hands on some white denim, and pronto, especially at these prices.

My two favorite ways to wear white denim is with neutrals; browns and olives, and monochomatically. I prefer white with earth tones because of my skin tone, but if you’re a gal that looks best in cool tones then pair it up with some aqua blues or even lilac. Or try white on white for a chic, monochrome style. Warning, not all whites go together so make sure your white match to avoid a style collision.

What is your favorite way to wear white denim? Do you wear it year round like me?

{Steal of the Week} Spring Slacks from Gap

Steal of the Week_Gap Pants_Printed Pants_Patterned Pants_Stripes_Geometric_Cropped

The arrival of spring means one important thing: patterned pants. Floral, striped, baroque or abstract. They’re the perfect way to express a bit of your personality without having to try too hard. I bought my first pair of patterned pants last spring and they quickly became a staple in my closet. They were a pair of cropped floral pants from H&M. They were $15 and I got so many compliments on them. Some people are intimidated by patterned pants (myself included). Try ‘em on, kick it around the house get comfortable in them, then rock the crap out of them. If you like it, wear it!

Check out these patterned pants on sale at Gap.

Steal of the week_patterned pants_cropped_gap_spring

Each of these three pairs of too-cute cropped pants are now $32.99 a pop. My favorite style are the navy stripes. Pair with a polka-dot top and chunky, statement necklace if you’re feeling daring.

Style tip: Looking to add curves to your figure? Opt for the striped style to give the illusion of more curves.

The geo print would be pretty versatile. They’re understated enough that they’d look fabulous on any body type. Try with a cute jute wedge and a linen-blend tee to keep it casual, or a solid-color blouse to dress it up.

If you’ve got shorter legs, try the  yellow color-block pants. With a lighter color on the bottom they give the illusion of longer legs. Rock with nude pumps to give yourself a bit of extra height.

Each of these pants were originally $55. You can grab them on sale now at the Gap for only $33 – that’s 40% off, and there are still tons of sizes left. Get shopping!

Yes, I do feel a little Jenna-Lyons-esque. This blog post will be low on words and heavy on pictures in comparison to other posts. Kate Middleton looks gorgeous in everything! Her natural British and sleek style has made her one of my style icons. Whether she’s attending a royal event, grocery shopping, or playing sports, Kate keeps an effortless and graceful look. She’s known for mixing spendy high end designer pieces with trendy street wear, so it’s easy for an average girl to achieve her royal style.

Here are five pieces under $50 for a royal inspired wardrobe:

1. Royal Bling

Kate wore a priceless diamond necklace borrowed from the queen.  It was crafted by Cartier in the ‘30s and is named The Nizam of Hyderabad Necklace.

{Trendy vs Spendy} Balenciaga Buckle Strap Ankle Booties

balenciaga look-alike boots

There’s a brand I’ve been finding myself eyeing and buying. That’s how you know you’ve found what you like, when you end gravitating towards it again and again without even realizing. That’s what Call It Spring is for me. I always take my time checking out their shoes and and have pursued their selection more than a few times online as well. Then over the summer I bought a pair of their wedges at JCPenney. Kohl’s also carries the brand, so as you can guess, Call It Spring is Trend Hungry approved in the budget department.

Their latest shoe to lust is this bootie with cutouts, buckles, and a chunky sole. They also happen to be Balenciaga bootie look-a-likes and are more that $1,200 cheaper – talk about a major score!

Trendy: Call It Spring Flomiss Bootie, $55.00.

Spendy: Balenciaga Buckle Strap Ankle Bootie,  $1,275.00.

Check out more shoes from Call It Spring. Most are under $100 and there’s a lot under $50 as well!
