{ Three Ways To Wear } Anorak Jacket

Fall came. It’s here and this one jacket has been serving me well as the weather + my style transitions.

Can we talk about the location of these pics for a sec? It may be my most favorite yet. The lovely Renee Patrone of Events by Renee was so gracious to let us shoot in her really cool space, Pineapple on Main (that you can rent for a gathering or workshop!). The space is the hub of some cool, creative entrepreneurs in the event, styling and decor biz. So of course there were some super-cute spots to shoot.

{ Dare To Wear } Happy-Hour Chic

And now, time for another edition of Dare To Wear, the blog series that keeps the fashions in rotation so that outfit remixes can be made. The more you play with your clothes the more ideas you’ll come up with (I type from experience).

This long-and-lovely tank top with a slitted skirt may not be my initial instinct, but when I want to create three different looks using the same piece it pushes me to rework the wardrobe. The result = new outfits! Can’t be mad at that. I’m especially not mad at this look and will be keeping in mind for the next time I need to look happy-hour chic. The top keeps it ladylike with a relaxed vibe, while the slit adds a splash of sexiness.

{ Style Tips }

1. Wear a belt. A belt is the accessory that brings things in and helps to create that hourglass shape.

2. Borrow from a friend to get the look just right. I forgot my bag of jewelry at home (couldn’t even believe it!) so borrowed the sunnies in the previous look and bracelet from my friend Kate, who also assisted on the shoot and scouted this great location.

3. Carry yourself with confidence. It really is the secret sauce to looking your best. Wear it and work it.

4. Accessorize your accessories & embrace the unexpected. The tassel (it’s a DIY coming up!) clipped onto the hat may be my favorite thing about this whole look. It’s a little detail that’s the perfect unexpected accent.

{ Dare To Wear } Kimono + Double Denim

Like my kimono? It’s from one of my favorite people. My dear friend Kristen sent it to me all the way from Hawaii. Though she and I don’t like close to each other anymore (she’s based in LA but lived a few months in Hawaii earlier this year), but we still manage to swap clothes when we do get together, though this one was meant for me to keep. It came in the mail along with a cool coral necklace she made me, a bottle of black sand, a hair product made by a friend she met while living there, and of course a thoughtful note — she’s the cutest + I absolutely LOVED the care package she sent me!! So when I wear this kimono I think of my boho babe, Kristen. Jessie’s Fashion-Blogging Advice To Philadelphia University

When the Philadelphia Inquirer fashion columnist asks you to speak to her Fashion Journalism class you say when. And that’s what happened. The lovely Elizabeth Wellington asked me to come talk to her students at Philadelphia University about fashion blogging. It was such an honor to share my story, lessons learned, and explain how starting this blog changed my life (for real, it really did, and I’m SO grateful for it!!). I spoke from the heart and the top of my head while students tweeted some of my dream-chasing nuggets. Read a few below and check out this Ellen-style selfie we took. Continue Reading

{Celeb Style Steal} Selena’s Striped Budget Buys

Che, che, check this out! Selena Gomez is just like us and wears Forever 21. The striped mesh top she recently posed in for an Instagram picture is for the budget retailer and is currently for sale for $15.80 – can’t be mad at that.

You have to admit, she makes this $16 shirt look pretty darn good in her Instagram pic. Thanks MTVStyle for tipping us off on Selena’s skinny-budget style!

This isn’t the only time we’ve seen her rock this trend for cheap. Check out the dress she wore last month. It’s Zara’s combination dress with hood for under $50. Notice that mesh stripe detail?

{Trendy vs Spendy} Heart Blouse on a Budget

This ultra-feminine print is all over Burberry and it’s making our hearts pitter patter for their $795 blouse made popular by Victoria Beckham, Claire Danes, Lily Collins (check her out rocking it in Glamour mag over the summer), and Harry Styles. Alas, a blouse for almost $800 kinda goes against our skinny-budget mantra, so we’ve scouted the stores and found a similar top for under $25. You’re welcome!

Trendy vs Spendy: Juicy Couture Bracelet Look-a-like

When it comes to fashion, I never forget a style, especially if it’s one I craved. I’ve spotted bracelets at boutiques that I’ve seen at Target, designer knockoffs at Forever 21, and many identical pieces marked two very different prices at different retailers. As a consumer/ frugal fashionista I’m on watch while I window shop to ensure buys at the best price. That way, I can treat myself more often.

This edition of Trendy vs Spendy may not feature a crazy-big price difference as past editions, but the way we found the steal was not the from the usual deal digging. Instead it popped up on our Instagram feed. Our budget-blogging bud, Cheapalicious shared a pic of her new Shoedazzle “Anchor’s Away” bracelet,  and it looked awfully familiar.

Juicy Couture came out with the same bracelet this past spring. I know this because I was lucky enough to receive one at the DBA gifting suite while in NYC for Fall 2013 Fashion Week. Deals are meant to be shared. So, I commented on her pic and even tagged her on my bracelet picture so she could see for herself.  Above are our Instagram pics side by side & compare for yourself (don’t mind my hairy arm on the right)!

Unfortunately, the gold is sold out on Shoedazzle, but silver is available and under $20.

So, which one would you buy? Shoedazzle or Juicy Couture? Comment below!
