Falling For Peplums

This past season peplums took over – period. Charlize Theron showed us just how fabulous they are and we’re simply not sick of this trend. Don’t think the peplum (an overskirt typically starting at the waist) is only for the stars on the red carpet. It’s also for us worker bees just trying to stand out in our cubicles while not freezing to death from the central air conditioning. Even though Kate Middleton is a princess, she’s relatable (repeats outfits like the rest of us) and her pretty peplum is chic, keeps her warm, and shows off her skinny waist even is cool months.

Here’s a slew of peplums you can wear to work, rework for play, and can be mixed with jeans, a skirt, or dress pants. Oh, and of course, they’re trendy, not spendy!

Kim & Kanye Copy Katie & Suri’s Matchy Looks

By Kelsey

If you always have the desire to have everything around you matching, listen up. Unless you’re a 5-year-old twin, matching is not cute. There is a time and place to look exactly the same as everyone else, that place is the military, private school and any type of public service job. Don’t make the mistake of turning fashion into a boring, unoriginal experience. Spare yourself and your loved ones the embarrassment now and stop with the matchy –matchy  eye sore you think is “stylish”.

Top offenders of this horrific fashion blunder are Katie Holmes and Suri Cruise. Katie Holmes, please stop the awkward encounters of people mistaking your child for a life-sized, “look-alike” American Girl doll.  Looking like your small child is not something to be proud of.  With the endless fashion possibilities Katie Homles has, she should not look like she just got done shopping at Baby Gap.

Other matchy-matchy offenders are Kim Kardashian and Kanye West (or Kimye, as I like to call them).  Please stop dressing alike, you are not going to prom, your outfits do not have to coordinate. You both are look cutting edge (leather will be huge this fall), but these outfits work much better when you’re at different locations.

So to all the matchy- matchy offenders out there, consider this your fashion warning. There is a fine line between cute and horrendous, don’t flirt with it, stick to being the original fashionista that you are!

Steal Charlize Theron’s Peplum Perfection

MTV award shows are my favorite. They’ve always got a fun vibe and good performances. The fashion isn’t always on point, but Charlize Theron’s look was a DO and you and do it too.

This peplum in red is a little more classic than trendy. Yes, peplums are hot right now, but a fitted red dress can go from season to season. It’s June and she wore it, but add some big bling and black heels for a holiday cocktail party. Wear it to a wedding or a hot date. It’s a special-occasion dress, but fits many occasions.

Here’s the dead ringer.

Oscars 2012: Peplum Pretty

Were you just as glued to the 2012 Academy Awards as I was? So many amazing outfits, inspiring speeches, and the Cirque du Soleil BLEW MY MIND.

Okay, back to the trends – muted tones, bright reds, and peplums stole the show. Plus, peplums have been all over the runways, so it’s about time we talk about them. Plus, I really want one … now!

Let me break this trend down for ya.
