Trend Hungry Tuesday: Black & White All Over

Yes, the ever-classic black and white color combo is trending. It works any season, on any body type, at any age and even price point. You can keep it clean and chic or make it wild and bold with a print. It’s literally the most versatile trend. Go into your closet and pair a white tee with black ponte pants and you’ve effortlessly rocked the trend.

It’s not just us common folk getting in on this fashion fix, so are a whole lot of celebs. Kris Jenner’s home and the set for her talk show are black and white and all her kids have worn the style at one time or another. And let’s not forget about the VMAs. Throwback bands Danity Kane & *NSync donned the the contrasting colors as did Robin Thicke in a Beetlejuice- esque suit, Jennifer Hudson in houndstooth, while Jordan Sparks & her boo Jason Derulo coordinated in black and white separates.

But that plain tee and pants probably won’t stand out as much as a piece that has the opposing hues together, like a black bag or earrings.

So how would you rock the trend? Scroll the showroom and comment telling us your faves!

8 Fall Trends as Seen at the MTV Video Music Awards

By now we’re all bored of all the gifs of Miley’s vulgar dancing at the MTV Video Music Awards, though they were hilarious. Instead let’s focus on the trends that we’re done right?

1. Bedroom Style

Take style inspiration from pajamas and lingerie. Selena Gomez managed to pull it off with the right amount of sex appeal while still keeping it ultra classy.

2. Leopard Lusting

Katy Perry arrived in leopard and Bruno Mars dress shirt donned the print, making this trend work on both genders.

3. Nude Nails with a Splash of Sparkle

Rita Ora rocked stilletto nails with rhinestones for a subtle-chic style.

4. Black & White

Justin Timberlake is fully embracing this trend as is Robin Thicke in his Beetlejuice suit. Black & white is taking over!

5. Fur

Of all the celebrities, it’s Macklemore showing us how to rock this trend right.

6. Fall Florals

This isn’t just a springtime style anymore. Florals are all year round and this fall they’ll be in full bloom. Here’s trendsetter Ariana Grande looking demure and sweet in her floral party dress.

7. Matchy Matchy

Of all the people showing us the trend, it’s 2 Chainz. Matching is back in style and even the guys know it.

8. Gold Hardware

Model Coco Rocha’s touches of gold make shine against her all-black ensemble.

Trend Hungry Tuesday: Katy Perry’s School Girl Plaid

school girl plaid

Plaid is one of those trends that’s always in. Whether it’s a specific color or fabric, it’s one of those classics that just never goes away… and we’re so not mad about it.

school girl plaid

MTV recently blogged a GIF of Katy Perry’s VMA promo. And what was she wearing? A school girl plaid skirt. It was so ’90s, which we’re all about!! We liked it so much that we found a similar skirt from Forever 21 for $15.80.

3.1 Philip Lim, Marc by Marc Jacobs, and Karen Walker are just three of the big designers that showed plaid for fall 2013.

Other celeb fans of that school girl plaid include Madonna, Emma Watson, Gwen Stefani, and JLo.

Celebrity Trend: Crazy Hair Colors! Would You Rock It?

celebrity trend: lauren conrad pink hair from paint

Last week we posted about Khloe Kardashian Odom’s cray-cray hair part. She took to Twitter to show it off and now Lauren Conrad Instagrammed her pink locks. What’s going on with celebs social sharing their colorful tresses? We’re not mad at it, but we’re not sure about rocking the style ourselves.

LC’s wasn’t on purpose. Her pretty blonde hue got splashed with paint at the festival of colors called Holi Festival.

As you may recall, Nicki Minaj made this colorful style popular a couple years back. Celebs clearly love their colors!

We don’t recommend using paint to snag the style, but we do recommend Pop of Color by Rita Hazen spray made for your hair ($18), aka the same one  Khloe Kardashian. It’s temporary, as cotton candy hair may not be something you’d like to commit to.

An even more fab and frugal find is Beyond The Zone Color Bombz Air Head Pink. It’s only around $6 and can be bought at Sally Beauty.

So would you do this do? Comment below!

Steal Charlize Theron’s Peplum Perfection

MTV award shows are my favorite. They’ve always got a fun vibe and good performances. The fashion isn’t always on point, but Charlize Theron’s look was a DO and you and do it too.

This peplum in red is a little more classic than trendy. Yes, peplums are hot right now, but a fitted red dress can go from season to season. It’s June and she wore it, but add some big bling and black heels for a holiday cocktail party. Wear it to a wedding or a hot date. It’s a special-occasion dress, but fits many occasions.

Here’s the dead ringer.

And here are some pretty similar alternatives…

Video: My Interview With Whitney Port

The lovely and fashionable Whitney Port (reality star, author, designer) just launched a new line exclusively for Apricot Lane called WE by Whitney Eve. It’s more affordable than her past designs and perfect for the upcoming months.

I had the chance to sit and chat with her at the launch event, a Garden Tea Party at Apricot Lane Suburban Square. Part 2 of the interview will be up tomorrow!

I had such an AMAZING time at her tea party. There was the best raspberry iced tea, yummy desserts, and even tea sandwiches. Plus Whitney is such a sweetheart in person (and so gorgeous!). Whitney even posted a pic of she and me on her blog (I’m super excited!!). See for yourself on her blog.

VMA Fashion… Not Impressed

I love the Video Music Awards. It’s one of my favorite awards shows because it’s just cool. But this year there was no host (WHAT!?!!). I was displeased with MTV’s choice to cut corners and I was even more disappointed with the outfits.

GaGa arrived sans the egg and instead as a man, pretending to be her own love interest. I wasn’t buying it.

The new chick on The Jersey Shore is officially the worst dressed of the cast. Quite an accomplishment considering Abercrombie pays the Situation not to wear their brand (bad publicity).

Katy Perry wore a cube on her head. I didn’t get it, but it looks like she just took it right off of the Dior catwalk. Not that original…

The Biebs hair looked awful ( l miss the old do), but he claimed he was wearing a Kanye costume, which actually makes me like this look more. the red pants are on trend. Salena looked really good. Work it girl!

And that’ the TrendHungry recap. Not wowed, not trying to copy these looks for cheap, well, maybe Salena’s.

Casual Friday: Flower-Power Perfection

If you’ve got a job that allows you to go casual, then go for it. Just make sure to keep it fun and classy. If not, save this piece for your time off the clock – or better yet, dress it up.

Exclusively at Kohl’s, this LC Lauren Conrad top by designer/reality star/author/stylish individual Lauren Conrad is a great wardrobe staple. Wear it with tight black pants, leggings or even jeggings. Try it tucked in with a high-waisted skirt that billows out and carmel-color boots if you’d like. This top is comfortable enough to sport from the office to grabbing a coffee with friends, the movies, a farmer’s market – wherever you want, this top fits the bill. The floral print makes it feminine, as does the ruche detail featured on the sleeves. It comes in three colors. For the sale price of only $24.99, you’ll get a lot of wears out of this piece. And isn’t that what we all want – utility items that go with items we already have in our closets.
