{Dare To Wear} Falling For Flannel

It’s that time, time for the third dare-to-wear look of November and this one may be a personal favorite that I rock often. Comprised of a flannel top, jeans, booties, and a scarf for warmth, this look was made for fall and takes me from running errands to lunch dates with my boo. I’ve worn this shirt a ton this month, but this combination is one I could live in everyday.

Styling Tips

1. Let the sleeves go long. Your mother will ask you to roll them up if you dare to wear this to Thanksgiving, but the unbuttoned sleeves make for a flowy and casual ensemble.

2. Big scarves and top knots play nice. Wearing layers near your hair plus dry winter air equals tangled tresses. Avoid the mess and opt for an updo when wearing bulky scarves or lots of layers near your hair.

3. Wearing the top untucked? Unbutton the bottom,  one of two should be good. Leaving a button or two open can prevent pulling and will keep the complementary lines flowing.

{Dare to Wear} Kimonos & Mini Skirts

Time for round two of styling for a good cause. In last week’s look I kept it casual with high-waist jeans and comfy kicks, but this look took a whole different direction. I mixed a few pieces you may not normally wear together and hopefully it shows you how versatile this tank top is so that you want to BUY ONE because sales BENEFIT THE LEUKEMIA & LYMPHOMA SOCIETY!

Okay, sorry for the hard sell, but they are only $30, designed and made locally, and benefit a good cause. Plus they are only available a few more days so get ‘em while you can.  Grab online, at one of the various local boutiques in the greater Philadelphia area, or come meet me tomorrow.

I’ll be at Andre Richard Salon this Tuesday from 12-4pm with the designer selling pieces from our collaboration charity line and I’ll also be selling pieces from my vintage jewelry collection Bling Babe and $10 of every sale goes to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

I have been dying to get my hands on a kimono. This is my first one, have had it for about a month, and I gotta say that I LOVE it. Kimonos definitely don’t go with everything, but a leather skirt, charity tank top, and strappy shoes seem to work together quite well.

vegan leather skirt budget fashion blog

Style tips

1. Tuck it in. Kimonos feel bedroomy enough. Try tucking in your shirt in to prevent look from feeling sloppy.

2. Add height. I’m on the petite side so high shoes are kinda necessary with certain looks. I’ve worn the kimono with flat sandals before but a little height makes the proportions appear much longer.

3. Grab gladiator shoes with elastic straps. Slipping the shoe on is easy with shoe staying on securely, even with sweaty summer feet (not to be gross, but it’s something to think about it for hot days ahead).

4. Mix vibes. A graphic tank top, kimono and leather skirt may not sound like an obvious outfit choice, but it’s just a few simple pieces and works well because all the styles are different. The look doesn’t feel to club with the shoes and skirt or too casual with the tank and kimono. Think out of the box and guess and test to find styles you love together. They may just balance each other out.

{TV} Coats for Your Body Type

I visited my friends over at The Better Show last week to talk coats for your body type. It’s finally coat weather, so bundle up in style.  Here are my tips for finding the right coat for your figure. Click here to watch the clip: Coats for Your Body Type.

Look 1: Petite

RIGHT FIT go for something short and compact. Try a bright color to add style or sleek accents (such as leather sleeves) that won’t overwhelm your small frame.

WRONG FIT coats that are too long, big, bulky, or with lots of embellishments.

Coat: a short, pea coat with faux leather sleeves from Aeropostale (on sale for under $50!)

Look 2: Athletic

RIGHT FIT add shape to an athletic build by picking a coat with a feminine cut and creates curves, such a coat with a drawstring at the waist or a belt. This shape can easily pull off bold prints.

WRONG FIT anything boxy or without shape.

Coat: a short wrap coat that creates curves from JCPenney (on sale for $120).

Look 3: Bigger Bust

RIGHT FIT try a zippered coat that cinches in slightly at the waist, to highlight curves while not bringing more attention to the chest area.

WRING FIT puffy coats that make your waist go missing and and steer clear of buttons, that can pucker with a bigger bust.

Coat: a chevron coat that cinches at the waist and zippers close. $102 at Lulu*s.

Look 4: Pear Shape

RIGHT FIT DO even out proportions by opting for a coat that draws attention upward. A fur collar adds more shape up top, balancing out the hips.  Also look for styles with shoulder pads, wide collars, or that are cut to go slightly inward at the bottom.

WRONG FIT  short and tight and big prints.

Coat: a structured coat with large fur collar, bring the eye upward. Coat ($154.99) &  sherpa scarf ($24.99) from Kohl’s.

Trend Hungry Instagrams of February 2013

philly fashion blog @trendhungryblog on instagram

February was a jam-packed month, plus it’s short so went by even faster! Let’s say bye to February and hello to MY BIRTHDAY MONTH! March is here, so let’s wave one last goodbye to Feb. 2013 and take a trip back though Instagram pics.

Here’s what happened.

philly fashion blog @trendhungryblog on instagram

Philly FABB was the media sponsor for Blonde Ambition at Andre Richard Salon. So naturally, as a founder of FABB I was in attendance and got blonded with clip-in extensions.

Started contributing to The Philadelphia Inquirer’s Philly.com.

Kohl’s sent me Rock & Republic Aztec denim. Love wearing those jeans with my Tory Burch Boots. Snagged the $500 boots for $140 at The Wardrobe Boutique – profit goes to charity, so many layers of goodness in that purchase!

Officially obsessed with red & pink together.

Kissed to a MEGA successful event with The Body Shop. (recap will be up tomorrow!!).

Trekked to NYC for the IFB Con. Got a free ticket in exchange for live blogging at one of the panels. And got my hair done and some other goodies!

Ate breakfast with my boo – Eggs Benedict, baby!

Stopped by the DBA Gifting Suite during NYFW right after wrapping a TV seg with The Better Show. Got spoiled there and became obsessed with Lookmatic glasses. Don’t you love?

One of my fave people Kristen (my friend who used to film the Trend Bites, but moved to LA) was in NYC when I was. Opted to take a later bus so I could catch up with her and her boyfriend over tea and free appetizers at their hotel.

Did a Trend Bite with LuLu*s showing how to rock spring trend now.

Worked out more. Did a Vday giveaway. Became obsessed with a grilled cheese place called Melt Down.

Was a speaker at a local blogger event. Bought a Parka from American Eagle (here’s link to similar style). Took coffee breaks.

Trend Hungry got an overhaul (minor tweaking still). Found out owls are good luck and that I like decorating tiny spaces. Did two TV segs with Jenn Fred on Fox29.

Trend Bite: We’re Teaming Up With LuLu*s!! How To Wear Spring Trends Now

on air style expert jessie holeva and lulus.com

Hello and happy Friday! It’s NYFW!!! Every season my inbox gets a few more invites than the season before, so I’m pretty bummed I didn’t block out time on my schedule to attend all the fun stuff, but I’m just thankful to be invited!

Life’s been busy, yet fabulous! And, you may notice that this is my second video with LuLu*s. Well, it’s going to be an on-going thing. I’m beyond excited, seeing as it’s literally one of my favorite shopping destinations! I feature them all the time in my TV segments and it’s because they carry all the top trends on a budget. I feel like LuLu*s was made for me … and I’m not just saying that.

This vid is pretty fitting for the season. Like I said, it’s FASHION WEEK! We’re all trying to keep up with the Jones’ of fashion. And even though this week is all about the following season, style peeps are dressed to impress with the latest spring trends. So, we made this quick vid to showcase a few of my favorite spring styles with the chilly temps in mind. So, do wear pastel, but don’t wear flip flops (I literally saw a girl wearing flip flops the other day and it was snowing out… seriously??).  Okay, that being said, in look 3 I’m barefoot. To be fair, I thought my feet weren’t in the shot.

Disclosure: All the LuLu*s items were gifted. All opinions are my own. I work with LuLu*s because I’m a HUGE fan, for realz.

The Sale-Rack Skinny: The Skinny Blonde Girl

Hey, fabulous Trend Hungry readers! It’s Katelyn here from www.theskinnyblondegirl.com, a blog that offers a chic Canadian perspective on personal style, makeup, beauty, and just about everything in between. I’m so honored to be posting today on Trend Hungry and am very excited to share with you some online shopping advice and the latest deals I’ve scoped out on my favorite shopping sites.

the sale rack skinny

When I’m shopping online, I always hit up the sale and clearance sections first. While shopping in store is fun, I love that I can grab my favorite trends without breaking the bank and without leaving my couch. I usually stick to neutrals because A) I have a weakness for anything black and white and B) they’re way less likely to go out of style within the next few seasons. Continue reading…

Trend Bite: Fashion Resolutions

on air style expert jessie holeva video tips

Happy New Year! It’s the last Friday of 2012 and that means this is the last Trend Bite of 2012. It also marks one year of Trend Bites!! Thank you so much for your support! If you haven’t already, check out the Trend Hungry on YouTube  and subscribe so you don’t miss a bite!

My resolutions include cleaning out my makeup bag, selling the clothes I don’t wear (this has been on my to-do list forever!), wearing more emerald green, and mastering the cat eye. I know, these may sound a bit shallow, but these are just my style resolutions.

And if you must know, my hat is from The Wardrobe Boutique (can’t remember how much, but it was under $10). My top is from LuLu*s (I’m currently selling it on Threadflip), and my emerald green jacket is from Kohl’s for $72.00 $36.00 (c/o).

Thanks for watching! Take a trip down memory lane and watch the very first Trend Bite.

Trend Bite: 7 Ways To Wear 1 Vegan Leather Skirt From LuLu*s

how to style a leather skirt with fashion expert jessie holeva at lulus.com

If you’re an avid reader of Trend Hungry, then you know I love LuLu*s. I so often look there when planning a TV segment, and it’s because they always carry cool pieces you’d typically find at a pricey boutique, but they’re at a good price point. I also really love their blog and I’m thrilled to be sharing the this week’s Trend Bite because I teamed up with LuLu*s to bring you one vegan leather skirt, seven ways and this video will be on LuLu.com’s blog as well!

This skirt is a favorite of mine. After featuring it on a recent TV segment , I got the idea of showing many ways to style this trendy staple piece.

I used items I already owned when styling the looks. A few fun pieces I threw it were a vintage hat, a rocker tee, a bulky sweater, vintage cocktail rings, and a flannel shirt to name a few. The heart sweater and the infinity scarf are items I own from LuLu*s.
