{Dare to Wear} Lots of Layers

The temps, they are quite inconsistent. One day it’s raining, and an hour later the sun is shining. My style advice, dress in layers.
Printed panted are having a major moment and they are very much Trend-Hungry approved. Many brands and stores are carrying printed pants for less, they’re uber comfortable, and they aren’t nearly as heavy as jeans. Wear on a warm day when your spray tan is fading or when there just isn’t time to de-hair yourself.
Keep layers thin and add in a pop of color to keep look fun and in line with the season. The idea is to look styled and be able to strip down if the temp rises, and not look bulky.
Stylist tip: opt for a sleeveless jacket or vest as your outer later to keep from weighing yourself down and overheating.

{Dare to Wear} Princess Attire

Hello darling! I’m embracing my inner princess (not a stretch) and am remixing my Forever 21 maxi dress for a holiday look that’s girly, glam, and reminiscent of playing dress up. This outfit makes me feel like I just pulled out some play clothes from a toy chest. I mean, what little girl wouldn’t want a tulle skirt, pearls, and a beanie in the mix with some plastic Barbie heels? Okay, maybe the beanie is a stretch, but it’s clear I embrace my playful side when dressing. philadelphia stylist

Haven’t you heard? Style should be fun. People always ask me how I decide what to wear, and the truth is that I go with my gut. Yes, there are some rules to fashion (like don’t wear skin-tight everything, and cover your butt in leggings) but when it come to accessorizing I wear what feels right. And that’s how this outfit was born. Now let’s skip to the details.  budget fashion blogger

5 Quick, Cheap, Easy Halloween Costume Ideas – You’re Welcome!

Halloween always seems to sneak up. I usually start brainstorming costume ideas in the summer (I know, crazy), but don’t take any costume-creating until the day of a costume party – bad habit, but I know I’m not the only guilty one.

So, since I too am in a costume bind I’ve compiled some quick, easy Halloween costume ideas that don’t really require buying – cause who has time for that?

1. Robbers

Hilary Duff and her hubby went the robber route in 2011 when Hil was preggers. Use a pillow case as a money sack and dress in dark colors. A toy gun also makes a great accessory. Notice they used black face makeup instead of the mask route – more comfy and also inexpensive.

2. Daria

This classic show’s leading lady is a costumes you can easily DIY. Our budget-blogger friend Shauna from Penny Chic shows us how to craft this costume with ease and affordably.

3. Britney Spears Circa 2003

Lauren Conrad‘s impression of the pop princess calls for high socks, pleats, and furry hair ties.

4. Holly Golightly

An oldie, but a goodie – all you need is a LBD, some bling, and a bun. Now you’re ready for Breakfast at Tiffany’s!

5. Wayne’s World

Wayne & Garth are easy to create. Get a wig or wear your hair down. Add glasses if you’re Garth, and don’t forget the plaid.

{Dare to Wear} Haute Hue for a Hike

It’s the end of the first installment of Dare to Wear, the new blog series where we dare to wear the same piece three weeks in a row!  Over the last three weeks I’ve taken my hot-pink pants in three different style directions – preppy, business chic, and now a look perhaps too haute for a hike?

budget-fashion blogger

This shade certainly will not blend in outdoors and this outfit isn’t really for hiking. It’s for looking fabulous this fall – isn’t that enough?

Make a bright shade more fall friendly by styling with more subdued shades – think oatmeal, light gray, camel, and olive. Swap out the heeled booties for something more comfortable and rocky-path friendly if you’re looking to take a stroll in the woods. IMG_8731

For this look we paired the hot-pink jeans with an army-green jacket over an oatmeal-colored sweater. The hair braid tied with a ribbon hair tie acts as added accessory.

Style Transition: 10 Pieces to Buy Now and Wear for Fall

I don’t know about you but I hate when you buy clothes and they’re only wearable for one season. ONE SEASON? If I love a certain shirt or pair of shorts, I want to be able to rock them year round or at the least wear it through a season or two.

10 Pieces to Buy Now

Labor Day is next week which means summer is about to basically call it quits! September is sure to bring some warm, comfortable weather but we must prepare for some serious layering for those chilly nights. Instead of investing in a pair of open toed wedges or capris, let’s start thinking about items to buy and wear now, but totally rock in the fall!

Here are 10 items to buy now and rock next season!

1. Ankle Boots

ankle boots

Ankle Boots look super cute with ripped denim shorts and a graphic tee or are perfect for a night on the town with pleated shorts, a tank top and blazer. These Rock and Republic Ankle Boots on sale for $59.99 will surely get the job done.

2. Scarves

fall 2013 scarf

Air conditioning is probably the best invention ever but can also be a pain when you’re dressed for summer days and stuck in the office. I’m loving this Nordstroms Hinge ‘Wanderer’ Red Cayenne Scarf (18.98) that can spice up any look and keep you warm in the office.

3. Chambray Shirts

You can never go wrong with denim. Trust me. Try this LC Lauren Conrad Faded Chambray Shirt for only $15.40. Chambray shirts never go out of style and can over a tank top in the summer or be layered under a blazer in the fall.

4. Leather Skirts

leather skirt under $20

You’ll turn heads in the summer and continue to turn heads in the fall. I know the first thing you’re thinking is that leather is extremely hot- but a skirt matched with a bustier top and open toed heels will make the perfect lounge outfit in the summer. This Olsenboye Faux-Leather Contrast Skirt is $18.99 can definitely seal the deal! Try the summer look topped with a blazer and boom- you’ve got a fall look ready to go!

5. Flatforms

I love flatforms because they’re easy to walk in, extremely comfortable and not too intimidating. These ASOS Black Bingo Leather Pointed Flatforms with Ankle Strap for $37.97 look great with shorts and a tee and blend beautifully with a maxi dress, jean jacket and designer socks. Trust me…the socks and flatforms combo is an A+!

6. Pleated Shorts

pleated shorts Dressing for work in the summer can sometimes be challenging…what’s too short? Is this too revealing? Do I look like a highlighter?

Pleated shorts are the perfect solution to looking professional and season appropriate.  Match a graphic blouse with these Jessica Simpson Pleated Breeze shorts ($10.56) in the summer and try the same for the fall with nude tights underneath.

7. Bomber Jackets

Bomber Jackets are the perfect item to wear from season to season. This Derek Lam for DesigNation Solid Bomber Jacket ($28) can be draped over a maxi dress, matched with a blouse and pencil skirt, or worn with pants and a tank top.

8. Sleeveless Blouse

sleeveless blouse Check out this Mossimo Sleeveless Woven Shirt Blouse for $19.99. It’s unique, quirky ,and has a personality of its own. Rock it with a skirt in the summer or jeans and a cardigan for the fall. Did we mention the florals are HUGE this fall? Well, they are!

9. Little Black Dress

little black dress

Why does everyone try to avoid dark colors in the summer? You can never go wrong with a little black dress. This BB Dakota Oscar Dress ($48) will compliment a bold colored necklace or bright wedges in the summer or can be toned down with black pumps and a neutral blazer for the fall.

10. Converse Sneakers

Everyone should invest in a pair of Chuck Taylors. Whether high or low top, they’re classic, unisex, and literally go with anything.

Beyonce's Fashion Blog

Beyonce’s Blog & 5 Celebs We Wish Had Fashion Blogs

By Kelsey

Wouldn’t it be nice if some of Hollywood’s best dressed lent their expertise to us on a daily basis? In a dream world I would open an iPhone app every morning to fashion blogs personally written by some of my favorite dressed celebrities. Beyonce’s blog wets our palette for celeb style, and here are five more we’d like to see more fashion from.

From edgy , classic , everyday and crazy I’d pick my mood and read my blog. Yes, in a perfect world everyday would be a fashion show and it would be easy to know what exactly was going through the mind of my favorite celeb when they stepped out of the house. Since this is probably a far off dream, let’s pretend! Here are some of my dream bloggers.

1.Lauren ConradLauren Conrad is one of my favorite designers. Making fashion look effortless I absolutely love her desire for floral print. She gives  off a old fashion glam look while still looking up to date and lovely. She may have a beauty blog ( and blog on, but I want to see her style daily… and maybe copy it.

2. Katy PerryFeeling crazy? Then rock the blue hair and dramatic lashes! Katy Perry teaches us that you’re never too old to have fun with fashion. You can make a statement every day; don’t be afraid to take a risk.

3. Blake Lively is always on top of new trends. As fashionable as the character she plays on tv, she looks chic in every day clothes and in formal wear.  Known for a sleek and stylish look Blake always rocks top designer looks. Get her look! Continue Reading

What Does Your Outfit Say?

Sponsored by Stoli

This blog post isn’t all about trends, it’s about why we love them. Why do we spend money on the “it bag”? Why do you choose to wear a blazer for a meeting, but save the sequin dress for a night out?

Fashion is an artform and the clothes, bags, shoes, and baubles are all different tools in your art kit. And art, art is there to express emotion.

When I get dressed, I think about my mood or the vibe I want to give out. Like a painting or a great piece of music, it’s about creativity and conveying a feeling. Art should make you feel something. When you hear a ballad, you feel what the artist is singing about. When I throw on a head thong, I feel bohemian and carry a piece of that feeling with me throughout my day. Not only am I feeling a certain way by my fashion choices, but I’m putting it out to the people I encounter.

fashion art

I know, it may sound a little weird to think about dressing to create art, but that’s what we’re all doing every day, creating a look. We’ll wear a power suit to feel powerful and command respect from peers, or opt for lacy lingerie to feel sexy and set the tone for a romantic night.

Think about it. Would you really covet so many different styles if you weren’t trying to capture feeling powerful, fun, sexy, classic, earthy, hipster, or conservative? We want to create a look and have it say something. It’s why someone will ask what  Vincent van Gogh’s Starry Night says to you. Well outfits speak too, some louder than others.

Designers create art, and we (our own personal stylists) remix it to make it our own. So here’s my question. What’s something you love to wear and why? What does it say? Comment below!

DIY Olympic-Medal Manicure

The highly-anticipated Olympics are in full swing. You’ve probably already been watching the swimming and gymnastic events and have been wondering how to incorperate Olympic style into your look (I know I have!). Lucky for you (and me!) I’ve figured out an easy way that fits a skinny budget and I’m calling it the Olympic-Medal Mani.

It’s basically a half-moon manicure (super popular!), but with some patriotic-pretty polishes. Celebrity Inspiration – Rita Ora, Rihanna, Lauren Conrad, Dita Von Teese, Megan Fox, Kim Kardashian.

What you’ll need – hole punch stickers, three nails polishes – one metallic, one colored (try red, white, or blue for US team spirit), a clear top coat … and a semi-steady hand.

1. Polish your nails in the metallic hue. Do two coats and let dry.

2. Once nails are dry (must be very dry!), add whole punch stickers to the moons of your nails (lower circle lines towards the cuticles). Secure stickers to all 10 nails.

3. Add your second color. Start at where the end of the sticker is. Repeat for all 10 nails.

4. Let dry.

5. Peel off stickers.

6. Add a clear top coat.

7. Instagram your nails and tag me @trendhungryblog. Hashtag it too #olympicmedalmani

8. I’ll tweet it and we’ll be nail twins.

9. That’s all folks!
