{ Dare To Wear } The Bolder, The Better

Dear life, you are meant to be lived so I am dressing for the occasion! I wore this dress, necklace, and earrings for a recent TV segment on Fox29 (see: the look on Instagram). I threw it together early that morning, right after moving, so all my stuff was/is a bit in disarray. To my surprise, this bold look got lots of love. Note to self: don’t be afraid to be different. That’s what makes us all unique. Dress like the special being that you are!

So here it is, and it’s the very first look shot at the aforementioned new place. Continue Reading

It’s finally feeling like winter. Did Blizzard Jonas hit you? Take a cue from one of these stylish celebs and stay warm with a pom-pom beanie.

Say what? Pom-pom beanies: also known as a pom beanie, is a close-fitted hat with a soft, decorative ball on top.

Katy Perry recently rocked a pom-pom beanie while learning how to ski. Talk about a skiing in style. I want to copy this entire look. Continue Reading

{ Dare To Wear } 3 Tips To Dressing Warm

This is my first outfit post of 2016. Whoa. Does it count if the pics were taken last year? Of course it does!

A flannel shirt is a serious Jessie staple. Wear open, buttoned, tied, tucked, or even around your waist if you get a little hot. I usually fall in love with one, wear it to death, then get a new one and keep the oldie as my bumming-around flannel.

Since getting this one I’ve styled it for the blog and have worn it a ton in real life, hence why I bought it. Flannel can get a little fancy if you’re creative, and I love it for casual dressing. For this look I went for a more outdoorsy vibe, with thin layers to keep me warm without looking puffy. Hope you like and that you are staying warm! Style tips + more pics await those who scroll.  ;)

{ Style Tips }

1. Add warmth without bulk by wearing thin layers, like a flannel top over a tee shirt, and then topping it with a quilted vest. This vest is light and pretty much made for layering.

2. Oversized scarves = extra warmth. I hate a cold neck and a scarf really does keep in the heat. If you get hot take it off or wrap it looser.

3. Keep toes toasty with weather-proof boots. This practical tip is obvious and yet I see so many women wearing open-toe booties and super high-heeled styles, which is totally cool but not for being out and about (especially when it’s icy!) and staying warm in style. This year I made sure to get some practical boots and I must say that it’s a decision I’ve been extra happy with. Me cold = me miserable.

{ VIDEO } New Year’s Eve Dresses Sans Sequins on FOX29

Are you freaking out yet about what you’re gonna wear tonight? I’ve got some style suggestions sans sequins in video form and if you’re local to Philly then you can even stop by one of these local boutiques to snag the look for tonight! A New Year’s Eve tradition, Fox29 asked me to come chat fashion for the third year in a row, but this time to skip sequins. I do enjoy sequins, but we all already know about that trend. I was up for the challenge and knew some local boutiques would have what I was looking for.

Check out the segment and scroll for outfit details. Happy New Year!! Continue Reading

{ Dare To Wear } Winter Accessories

Two things I wear all winter:  beanies + scarves. They are pretty much a must for my daily life and often stay on after my coat comes off.

Beanies truly are the cure to a bad hair day and cold ear, and scarves basically make me feel like I’m wrapped up in my own personal blanket. This Nich Boutique scarf happens to have pockets. It blew my mind and has been perfect for stashing my sunnies. I’ve been stowing my phone in the scarf too and actually panicked a few times thinking I lost my phone, before remembering the pockets. I do love pockets. They’re a weakness of mine.

{ Style Tips }

1. Make outerwear part of the outfit. Yes these pics are outside, but I often keep my scarf or beanie or both on after my coat comes off.

2. Pair a loose-fitting top with skinny bottoms. Dressing is really all about playing with proportions. Loose clothes all over can drown you and hide your shape, so an over-sized flannel looks great with more fitted pieces. Leggings, skinny jeans, or ponte pants are all great options.

3. Roll and cuff above the boots. As you can see from this previous outfit post, sometimes I like to wear these boots with the pants tucked. This was not one of those times. instead I cuffed these comfy pants to sit on top if the boots. It’s these little styling touches that make an outfit a whole look so play around with your clothes to switch up the vibe.  how to dress for winter

{ Fashion + Function } Three Ways To Layer A Sweater

As I write this post it’s over 63 degrees out here in the Philadelphia area. It’s practically mid December and was colder when we actually shot these photos in early November. Obviously the weather is a little wacky lately. That’s why I dress in layers.

True story: my dad is who taught me to dress in layers. He’ll wear long underwear under his jeans as soon as it starts getting cold (can you blame him? I loathe cold denim on my legs), though I doubt he has had to break them out yet. He’s also a skier (used to tour around ski racing before training kids how to race for pretty much my whole life), so for him it’s all about function.

Function meets fashion. You can always take a layer off (that’s pretty much a direct quote) and it’s true. Not only is it true, it also has been a little factoid I keep with me and has saved me from the finicky temps we encounter everywhere. Everywhere. The grocery store is practically the most freezing place on Earth. I literally add layers before going in or else I know my shopping trip will be in vain. When I’m a comfortable temp I’m much happier and so layering is pretty much a way of life now. Okay, on to three looks styled with the same fabulous sweater. fur vest styling

{ Style Tip } Layer a furry vest over a cardigan. I am all about layering (plus I’m always cold) and the sweater/vest combo keeps your core warm and arms free to move around. This is the kind of layered look that’s ideal for shopping, as I like to avoid carrying a coat while perusing potential holiday gifts. Haddonfield NJ style blog How to wear a furry vest

 { Style Tip } Two sweaters are warmer than one. As much as I want to be warm, I kind of hate big bulky jackets so opt to layer up with two sweaters and skipped the winter coat.

{ Dare To Wear } Furry Vest + Over-the-Knee Boots

Winter is coming! Thankfully the weather wasn’t freezing the day we did these pics.

It’s time to layer up, mix textures, and think about gift giving. I gotta tell you, this cardi-vest combination has been giving me life and is perfect to wear for holiday gatherings and shopping, among other places. In this look I’m warm, not bogged down with too much fabric, and feel photo ready (when I opt to leave the house with makeup on). Continue Reading

The little black dress has been a style staple for a long time. The little white dress, it’s just as versatile and fit for the season. Just take a note from some famous fashionistas.
