{Celeb Style} Miranda Kerr & Kourtney Kardashian in Double Denim

Traditionally, double denim is seen as a giant fashion faux pas. But for the past three years, this trend has become more and popular.

Notice the two different ways these two famous fashionista are wearing this trend. Miranda Kerr has her top tucked in for a more polished look, while Kourtney Kardashian has hers untucked for a more casual style. Either way, their styles give off a softer look and vibe. Their simplistic choices make double denim look flawless.

This trend is super attainable with a skinny budget. We all probably have a favorite pair of jeans, so all we really need is a good top. Here’s some double-denim inspiration:

H&M Skinny Regular Jeans (Dark), $40 | H&M Skinny Regular Jeans, $30 | Halogen Long Sleeve Chambray, $68 now $39 | Forever 21 Collared Chambray Shirt, $29

There are a few rules to this trend, such as:

1. Mix your washes

For a more contrast, pair a light chambray top with darker bottoms. A darker wash on the bottom create an elongated  leg and & slimming effect.

2. Don’t go overboard

As a stretch, think of Justin Timberlake & Britney Spear’s infamous double-denim look, circa 2001.  That’s what not to wear.

3. Create a softer look

Add strappy heels or put on a neutral statement necklace. The style this look takes on really depends on how you choose to accessorize.

4. Tuck and roll

Take a cue for Ms. Kerr by cuffing your sleeves. Or tuck in the top to show your waist.

Whose look do you prefer – Miranda Kerr or Kourtney Kardashian?

Eco-Chic on the Cheap: H&M’s Conscious Collection

Happy Earth Day! Showing Mother Nature love and respect is always in season, but this time of year gives us that reminder we need to celebrate our planet. Well, celebrate in style. Being eco-chic doesn’t have to break the bank, and H&M is leading the way in eco-friendly fashions with their mission for sustainable style.

H&M’s Conscious Collection first debuted in 2011 and since then has only grown. It’s fashionable, affordable, and made organic cotton, organic hemp, organic silk, and just recently came out with organic leather. Recycling is big too for this brand and turns water bottles into fabric among other recycled materials used.

Celebrities wear H&M

Yeah, they do. Miranda Kerr, Jessica Alba, & Solange Knowles all have donned H&M’s Conscious Collection. Penelope Cruz took her love for H&M eco-friendly mission and wore a custom gown by the Conscious Collection team to an Oscar after party.

Shop the collection

There are a lot of fabulous finds in this line and they’re not crazy expensive. They’re typical H&M prices and the designs are on point, but selling out. Here’s a few of my favorite. Comment below and share which one you like best?

{Dare to Wear} Geek-Chic Glasses Like Jenna Lyons

Geek can be chic. Yes, I am using glasses as an accessory. No, I don’t have a prescription. Yes, I do feel a little Jenna-Lyons-esque. This blog post will be low on words and heavy on pictures in comparison to other posts. Instead, enjoy my awkward poses ( Nelly’s Ride Wit Me was playing) and cheap-chic outfit using the H&M dress I featured in last week’s Dare to Wear. Look for my third look in this dress next week. fashion-expert-jessie-holeva on-air-style-expert-jessie-holeva philadelphia-fashion-blogger

New Way to Wear Monochrome

Monochrome is when a look (typically a picture, painting, or design) consists of one color. That one color can vary in shade and in terms of fashion, trying the monochromatic outfit can make you look slimmer and sleek, but sometimes boring.

So, here’s an outfit serving up all the good things the monochrome fashion trend has to offer minus losing your personality.

As you can see, I broke up my wine style with black boots and a striped sweater.  I feel so Parisian. Not gonna lie, wish the hat was a slightly different shade, but whatever.

The colored tights paired with a dress to match help elongate my petite figure.

Celebrity Trend: Pastel Outerwear (Under $50!!)

Spring has not sprung. In fact, we will have six more weeks on winter. But that doesn’t mean dark colors are still the standard. In fact, some of our favorite fashionistas are mixing it up this season and opting for pastel coats. Light pink, purple, baby blue, and mint seem to be top shades. Celebrities in pastel coats include Miley Cyrus, Kim Kardashian, Katy Perry and Sarah Jessica Parker.

This trend is feminine, makes you look tanner (it’s true!), and can be scored for under $50.  Check out this powder pink H&M coat for $49.95 at H&M.

Stylist Tip:  Pear-shaped ladies, style with an infinity scarf to balance out proportions.

TH Fall 2013 Ad Campaign Awards

As the famous and adored September issues are known for their super-sized page counts, we all know the real bulk is in the ads. After all, September issues are for the consumer to use as their Fall fashion bibles, right? But the ads don’t stop there. From TV, to billboards, to Instagram and even Vine, fashion ads are everywhere you look and we’re here to hand out awards for our faves.

Best Girl Gang: ZARA

This ad makes us want to hang with these girls, shop with these girls, and be these girls. The matching hats and all black ensembles adds to the badass-ness.

Most Likely to Make You Want to Go to School: TOMMY HILFIGER DENIM

College prep king Tommy Hilfiger is known for his classic Americana group ads, but this year’s TH Denim ad is making us feel nostalgically collegiate.

Most Creative (or Most Likely to Make You Go WTF?….):  KENZO

Kenzo always exhibits funky and fresh designs and patterns, and this time this eccentric personality goes beyond the runway and onto ads. Bugs, pins, mini-people, tweezers? Nightmare? Brillance? Not sure what to call them, but these ads sure grabbed our attention.

I love a good celeb cameo, and as Michelle Williams and Nicole Kidman show us, their talents go far beyond the silver screen. Absolutely flawless, we couldn’t pick one!

Okay, no words are really needed here. LOOK AT THESE TWO! Simply beautiful.

While most designers don’t feature themselves in ads (ahem, except Marc Jacobs),  Jason Wu went for it and nailed it. It looks like Wu and Turlington were just hanging out having a fun lunch and someone happened to snap a shot of them (which may very well be the case here). Definitely makes me want to hang with Jason Wu.

It’s quite obvious Ms. Delevingne (still practicing on my pronunciation) is the new IT girl. She’s nailed the pout, the stare, and those eyebrows!

Most Glamorous: DIOR

The location, the clothes, the makeup, the hair, everything about Dior seems to always scream classic glamour, and this Fall campaign brought all of these elements together in an almost magical looking scene.

Best by Budget Retailer: H&M

The epitome of effortless beauty, Gisele Bundchen, showcases H&M’s Fall line in a simple, chic, very Brit-inspired ad.

Picture 8

Clean black and whites keep our eyes on those amazing boots the whole time. Want.Want.Want.

Picture 7

Most Popular/Crowd Favorite/Best Ad/TH FAVE: TOM FORD

Every since Jay decided to rock Tom Ford, it seems like everyone else does too. Whether you’re a newbie or die-hard Ford fan, we can all agree this campaign is killer. Simple, yet bold; busy, yet pulled together, Ford pulled off the perfect campaign. The 80s themed colors, perfectly posed same trio of models, simple white backgrounds, the list goes on.  I can’t find anything I don’t like about this campaign. What do you think?

Now it’s your turn to weigh in. What ad was your absolute favorite? Share in the comments below!

H&M is already a Trend Hungry go-to for fashion on a budget and we’re loving that they finally launched ecommerce, but not we’re craving H&M for a whole new reason – home styling!

Funky-Girl Guide: 11 Must-Have Coachella Essentials

So, you’re one of the lucky ones that gets to go to heaven-ahem, I mean, Coachella this year. Lucky you!! Once you get over the initial excitement (ok maybe that won’t happen), you need to start planning what to bring! Usually a stressful task is now going to be 10 times easier, because I’ve complied the 11 must-have items to bring on your trip to Cali.

SPF 30+ Sunblock Stick Super Sensitive - Fragrance Free (0.5oz.) by California Baby

1. Sunblock and hat. Seriously. Do not forget your sunblock! It is so crucial to remember to apply and re-apply block throughout the day. Your skin is your biggest and best asset, so you better protect it! Sunburn does serious and lasting damage to skin, and causes all sorts of problems including sunspots and premature aging (aka wrinkles, so please please please protect yourselves, you’ll thank me later. Start in the morning with a moisturizer with SPF in it. I love this Say Yes to Cucumbers Daily Moisturizer  because of it’s calming effects, so it will feel extra good on skin after days in the sun. Throughout the day, continue to apply a good sunblock, like California Baby Sunblock Stick. The stick form is good for high temps, it won’t run or streak!

If you want to look extra cute while protecting your face, get an adorable floppy sun hat like this one from Nine West! Protection from the sun never looked so good!

2. Sunglasses. The ultimate festival accessory and another key item to protect yourself. Your eyes need just as much protection from the sun as your skin, and sunglasses will be your best (and pretty much only) form of protection. Snag a few cute pairs and play around with different looks. I like these, and these, AND these! All under $5!

3. Sneakers. The only reason why I am suggesting sneakers (or a closed toe shoe) is a.) They will stay on your feet and b.) they will protect your feet! Unless you plan on running around barefoot, your best bet it to get a cute pair (like these for $12.95 at h&m) to add style and functionality to your festy look. It’s no fun being in a crowd of people and getting your toes stepped on!

Roxy Handbag, Fly Bird Backpack

4. Backpack or fanny pack. While a bag is fairly important to have with you, a purse is only going to get in your way. You’ll need a bag that stays put like a cute drawstring backpack (we LOVE this fun floral Roxy bag)or a funky fanny pack (they’re making a comeback, I swear! Look how cute this one from Urban is!

5. Dry Shampoo. We can almost guarantee that your hair is going to need serious love during Coachella. Whether or not you’ll care what it looks like is another story. To quickly put some oomph back in your tresses, spray hair evenly with dry shampoo, disperse with fingers and keep on dancin’.

We recommend: Tresemme Fresh Start Dry Shampoo

6. Baby wipes. Or what I like to call miracle wipes. Since they are intended for use on a baby’s sensitive skin, they can be used on your body and face to freshen up throughout the day without causing any irritation.

coachella dress: LC Lauren Conrad Fit & Flare Polka-Dot Bustier Dress sale $39.00 original $60.00

7. Sundress. Quick, easy, cute and comfy: recipe for the perfect go-to festival outfit! Top it off with a cute belt, some accessories, and your sunnies and you’ll be good to go! Absolutely loving this LC Lauren Conrad Chambray Fit and Flare Dress!

what to pack for coachella: Favorite short-sleeve V-neck T from gap

8. Favorite tee. Everyone has one. Your one and only. Your ultimate go-to. Your gotta have it. That one tee (tank, shirt, top, whatever) that you can’t live without, or even feel comfortable without. (Mine happens to be the favorite tee from Gap). Bring this along to wear at any point during your trip, it’ll make you feel good and keep you comfy.

9. H2O. Never underestimate the power of hydration! Since you’ll be exposed to sun and heat all day (and doing lots of dancing), you’ll need to be drinking way more water than normal. Not only will it keep your energy levels up and body temps down, but it’ll keep your skin hydrated.

10. Camera!! Seems like a no brainer, but make sure you remember one of these so you can capture the memories. If you’re an experienced photog and want to shoot the festival on a professional level, then by all means bring your fancy cameras. If you’re like me and have trouble keeping track of things, opt for a (few) disposable camera(s). I always think they take the best photos!

coachella: Single Ribbon Hair Ties from sephora

11. Hair Ties. These ribbon ties are cute enough to wear around your wrist, and gentle enough to tie back hair sans a a major dent. That way you can have your hair up then down again. They’re only $1.50 at Sephora!

Behind The Blog: TV Shoot, Simon Mall Style Setting, and PHL Love

Hi! Let’s catch up. These last few weeks have been crazy busy. Right now, all I want to do is take a minute to reflect, enjoy, and well, say hi to you, my lovely readers! So here’s what I’ve been up to. I’ll try not to drag it on too much.

I started my day yesterday at 5AM (so not my style). After a quick shower, I was off to NYC to tape holiday party looks with the national lifestyle show Better (airs on Dec 4th, check your local listings). It’s crazy how many hours go into finding the clothes, models, and Continue Reading
