Nails, trend hungry tuesday

Hello Cuticle Tattoos! Finger Art, the Nail Art of 2014

Celebrities, runway models, and even we commoners have gotten into nail art  - I mean, have you seen all the manicure & nail art kits at the drugstore? Whelp, turns out nail art is so 2013. The trend that Katy Perry, Zooey Deschanel, and Lady GaGa brought to the masses has spread to the fingers. Yeah,  it’s time to take it further  – decorating your fingers is the new DO.

Perhaps, Lorde sparked the finger-art trend? Her dip-dyed fingers acted as an accessory during her performance at the 56th Grammy Awards. MTV Style reports that the models’ fingers looked awfully similar at the Creatures of Comfort New York Fashion Week presentation. rad-nails-beyond-cuticle-art-1

How to wear the trend

Midi rings accent a manicure nicely, or check out cuticle tattoos – it’s a prettier alternative to dying your fingers. These temporary tattoos are made in the USA (yay US team at the Winter Olympics!) and can be applied to your skin or nails. In fact, their site shows that it looks really awesome when you apply some to skin and some to nails.

Rad Nails cuticle tattoos cost $6 and come with 14 tattoos per strip, just in case ya mess up.

So will you stretch them out so you can get more wear or pile on the tats? Share your opinion of this trend in the comments below.

Sexy & Sheer: Steal RiRi’s Grammy Style (Under $40!!)

If you didn’t catch the Grammys last night, you missed a night full of stellar performances, surprise wins, and of course, jaw-dropping fashion! It’s official – skin is definitely in…I mean did you see J.Lo’s dress?!?! From midriffs to cut-out dresses and plunging necklines, the stars were definitely showing off their beach-ready bodies. But our favorite look by far was the sheer. It’s practical, sexy, and gives coverage with a little bit of tease. Just make sure you don’t go sheer from head to toe – that’s a major NO NO.

What celebs stole the show in sheer? Ashanti, Kelly Rowland, Alicia Keys and of course, Rihanna – this girl can do no wrong!
Rihanna rocked the red carpet in her long, sheer dress matched with a matte red lip. The cut and length of the dress covers all the right areas while still encompassing some playfulness and sex appeal.

Steal the look in time for Valentine’s Day! Opt for a cocktail dress with sheer details.

Our recommendation: Pins and Needles High-Neck Chiffon Dress  $109.00 $39.99 at Urban Outfitters.

 If that’s not your style…

Snag a skirtThrow on some heels and elongate those legs! Red is always sexy and this leaves room for the imagination. ($26.99)

Wired: Feathers Take Flight – Even in Your Hair

Feather earrings have been all over lately, and I’m sure you’ve seen some stylish ladies sporting feathered headbands. But that’s not where it ends. This trend is really taking flight and now you wear feathers anywhere, even as hair extensions … yeah, hair extensions. This new fad is a favorite among celebs like Jennifer Love Hewitt, and Blake Lively, but now you can rock feathers – whether in you hair, on a ring, or around your neck  – on a skinny budget.

First up, the Necklace.

This necklace is so beautiful, but it’s almost $40.00 from Express. There are two ways around this price problemo. A coupon -click herebut, you’ll have to spend more to save. Or, the much much better alternative is to hit up your local H&M. I found a nearly identical necklace for under $8.00!! Hurry, I got the last one right off the mannequin in the bronze with pink feathers. My store still has the silver with black feathers left.

The Headband.

The Ring.

Nicole Richie is a style icon and this ring from her line House of Harlow isn’t unattainable.

Take Note: only is size 7 or 8. Need a size 6? Charm and Chain has it for a buck more. It’s 14 k gold plated and so pretty!

If earrings are what you want then check out this recent post.

And now, for the hair extensions! This can be costly and few salons do this, at least around where I live (Philly). It’s a trend from the West Coast, but that doesn’t mean you need a house in the Hollywood Hills to get some feather extensions.

Here are the links to two different kits one is $10.00 at Mia and the other is $22.00 at HairFlairs.com. Take your pick, but the latter choice is by the same company that made  tinsel extensions Beyoncé to wear at last year’s Grammy Awards.

Every week Trend Hungry (and me, I’m Jessie!) will be giving the fashion 411 on a skinny budget on Wired 96.5! Please listen in on Friday mornings, become a fan on Facebook, and follow @trendhungryblog! Thank you for reading!!

Feathers for All

Gwyneth Paltrow wore hot pink feather earrings back when she performed at the Grammy Awards this year, and since then I feel like I’m seeing this look everywhere. Did I mention they fit a skinny budget?

Grammys 2011: Nicki Minaj Feline Fashion

Hi! I know this is a little late, since the Grammy’s were on Sunday, so please excuse my lateness. This year’s Grammy fashions were a bit weak in my opinion, but the girl that really brought it without being chauffeured in an egg (sorry GaGa) was Nicki Minaj. This girl is fierce!

Animal print from head to toe is typically a no-no, but if your name is Nicki Minaj you can get away with whatever you want and it becomes cool. Since this look doesn’t usually work in everyday life, this post is dedicated to leopard-print perfection: getting the right amount to look like a vixen and less like you’re an actually leopard.

Frilly Feline. This dress is gorgeous and I love the price. The only gripe is it’s only available in a size 4. If that’s you, then grab this steal before it’s all sold out.

River Island Animal Ruffle Shoulder Dress $53.79, Sale $26.90 at Asos.

Wild Nails. Sally Hansen’s Salon Effects makes a leopard design for $8.00 that you can find at Walmart. The product pictured is by Nail Rock from Topshop for $12.00.

Sniffle Style. How cute are these tissues? I wonder if Miss Minaj had these with her incase she caught a sniffle.

Leopard-Print Tissues, $1.80 at Forever 21.

Brace Yourself. Meowww! This bracelet gives a plain outfit the perfect pinch of leopard.

Leopard-Spotted Bracelet, $9.80 at Forever 21.

Skirt Spotted. This skirt will standout when paired with neutrals. Or, be wild and wear with a brightly-colored top.

Leopard-Print Skirt, $39.50 at Victoria's Secret.

Remember, this pattern works well on one piece at a time. Don’t pull a Nicki Minaj, unless you’re wearing a Frankenstein wig. Then, it totally works!

If you’re going wild over animal print, check out these other posts.
