{Dare to Wear} White Jeans After Labor Day

This may just be my favorite outfit posts yet! It’s been about a year since I started this Dare to Wear series and started working with my photographer Audrey (her site is linked at the bottom of this post). This blog is almost four years old and now outfit posts have been a regular fixture one of those years. I’ll save my reminiscing for another post, when I round up all the looks from the last year. For now, let’s talk white denim! Yes, it’s after Labor Day and yes it’s a DO!

These jeans were not pricy and man do they look good. I snagged my pair a few years ago after a friend of mine told me how awesome they are for the price. Hey, cool white jeans are hard to come by, especially when you’re looking for a deal. There’s a couple rhinestones on the pockets, but they really blend in. Besides, the ripped details steal the show anyway.

 Style Tips

1. Make sure your makeup says autumn. A dark lip can really do wonders to transition a summer trend.

2. Add in texture. Fall is all about layering. Pair white jeans with a knit or flannel to play up the fall feel.

3. Dark hues are a do. Avoid looking like you’re a season behind by styling the jeans with a contrasting top. Try dark purple, midnight blue, hunter green, or oxblood red to compliment the white denim for the season.

{DARE TO WEAR} a blog series dedicated to “dare to wear” the same thing three weeks in a row. If you’re gonna buy it, you better be able to wear it at least three ways, right? Each month a new item is featured and will be styled three ways over three weeks. Photos by Audrey Gallagher.
P.S. The jeans are actually not the item that I’m daring to wear three times this month (though I likely will be wearing anyway). Check back next week to find out what item I’ll be wearing on repeat.

Fashion, steal of the week

{Steal of the Week} White Denim

Steal of the week_White denim_spring trends_bargain_frugal

White denim is one of those things that will never go out of style. Everyone likes to say that you can only wear white between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Well, it’s time to throw that rule out the window. Wearing white is always in style – winter, spring, summer and fall. WEAR IT!

Many trend guides are showcasing white denim from the usually suspects,  Hudson & Citizens of Humanity, ringing in at well over $150 a pop. That just simply does not jive with my frugalista ways and luckily for all of you, I have done some hunting and found some white-denim staples for under $100. Just because you’re paying less doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice quality. For me, splurging on denim is okay as I know they’ll last more than a few seasons,  but realistically I won’t spend over $75 for any one item. So below are some items that are still feel high-end without the high price tag.

White denim is extremely versatile and works on any body type. So what I’m saying here is that you absolutely need to get your hands on some white denim, and pronto, especially at these prices.

My two favorite ways to wear white denim is with neutrals; browns and olives, and monochomatically. I prefer white with earth tones because of my skin tone, but if you’re a gal that looks best in cool tones then pair it up with some aqua blues or even lilac. Or try white on white for a chic, monochrome style. Warning, not all whites go together so make sure your white match to avoid a style collision.

What is your favorite way to wear white denim? Do you wear it year round like me?

Happy Galentine’s Day! Valentine Gifts for Your Bestie

Yay! It’s almost Valentine’s Day!! Though many of us  may not be jumping for joy (unless you’ve got a hot Prince who planned something), that doesn’t mean you have to be alone, annoyed, or without something special.Honey, the best gifts are the ones you pick out for yourself – or that are recommended by someone that’s made shopping their job (want to shop with me? personal shopping details here).

Okay, on to my picks for Valentines that you can snag for yourself or your best gal pal. Oh, and for those of you that don’t know what Galentine’s Day is, it’s the day before Valentine’s Day to celebrate the gals and was created on Parks & Recreation.

TH Fall 2013 Ad Campaign Awards

As the famous and adored September issues are known for their super-sized page counts, we all know the real bulk is in the ads. After all, September issues are for the consumer to use as their Fall fashion bibles, right? But the ads don’t stop there. From TV, to billboards, to Instagram and even Vine, fashion ads are everywhere you look and we’re here to hand out awards for our faves.

Best Girl Gang: ZARA

This ad makes us want to hang with these girls, shop with these girls, and be these girls. The matching hats and all black ensembles adds to the badass-ness.

Most Likely to Make You Want to Go to School: TOMMY HILFIGER DENIM

College prep king Tommy Hilfiger is known for his classic Americana group ads, but this year’s TH Denim ad is making us feel nostalgically collegiate.

Most Creative (or Most Likely to Make You Go WTF?….):  KENZO

Kenzo always exhibits funky and fresh designs and patterns, and this time this eccentric personality goes beyond the runway and onto ads. Bugs, pins, mini-people, tweezers? Nightmare? Brillance? Not sure what to call them, but these ads sure grabbed our attention.

I love a good celeb cameo, and as Michelle Williams and Nicole Kidman show us, their talents go far beyond the silver screen. Absolutely flawless, we couldn’t pick one!

Okay, no words are really needed here. LOOK AT THESE TWO! Simply beautiful.

While most designers don’t feature themselves in ads (ahem, except Marc Jacobs),  Jason Wu went for it and nailed it. It looks like Wu and Turlington were just hanging out having a fun lunch and someone happened to snap a shot of them (which may very well be the case here). Definitely makes me want to hang with Jason Wu.

It’s quite obvious Ms. Delevingne (still practicing on my pronunciation) is the new IT girl. She’s nailed the pout, the stare, and those eyebrows!

Most Glamorous: DIOR

The location, the clothes, the makeup, the hair, everything about Dior seems to always scream classic glamour, and this Fall campaign brought all of these elements together in an almost magical looking scene.

Best by Budget Retailer: H&M

The epitome of effortless beauty, Gisele Bundchen, showcases H&M’s Fall line in a simple, chic, very Brit-inspired ad.

Clean black and whites keep our eyes on those amazing boots the whole time. Want.Want.Want.

Most Popular/Crowd Favorite/Best Ad/TH FAVE: TOM FORD

Every since Jay decided to rock Tom Ford, it seems like everyone else does too. Whether you’re a newbie or die-hard Ford fan, we can all agree this campaign is killer. Simple, yet bold; busy, yet pulled together, Ford pulled off the perfect campaign. The 80s themed colors, perfectly posed same trio of models, simple white backgrounds, the list goes on.  I can’t find anything I don’t like about this campaign. What do you think?

Now it’s your turn to weigh in. What ad was your absolute favorite? Share in the comments below!

Friday Find: Stylish Candle Holders Too Good To Ignore

Earlier this week we gushed about our faves from H&M’s home collection (ahem, which just launched in the US!) and we forgot to share these freakin’ amazing H&M candle holders. Shame on us!

There are so many reasons why these candle holders deserve the #FridayFind spot. First, the price is right at $3.95. Second, they look luxe. They also feel kinda Grecian, will look fab on a coffee table tray or um, anywhere, and these glass candle holders come in three metallic shades: copped, gold, silver.

So which shade suits your style? Comment below or tweet me @jessieholeva #FridayFind!
