{ Trend Hungry Tuesday } Mixing Prints

Have fun with fashion. This trend requires it. It’s mixing prints together. So plaid and polka dots is a now a fashion DO as are stripes and floral designs. This is one trend you have to try to for yourself and a few celebs are showing us how it’s done.

Gwen Stefani always looks so put together but always with a cool, rocker edge. This past weekend she rocked striped sunnies with a dotted top and plaid pants. It might would like a lot going on, but it totally worked,

Beyoncé is another who’s been into pairing prints lately and posted a few different outfit pictures on Instagram.

Famous fashionistas that have been known to mix prints are Kourtney Kardashian and Jessica Alba.

{ Tips & Tricks To Pairing Patterns }

1. For easy pairing, try prints that are in the same color family.

2. Style a loud print with one that’s more subtle to balance the look. The subtle will act as a neutral.

3. Guess and test. It’s the only real way to find out what YOU like.

4. Go light on accessories. Let the prints do the talking.

As for snagging this trend on a budget, you can go pretty much anywhere, even your own closet. I found some stellar styles for a steal and Forever 21. They only look luxe.

There’s a Polka dot skirt for under $25,and striped top for under $10 and many more stylish finds. Scroll through the showroom and mix and match to your style preference.

Do you like to pair patterns together? Do tell in the comments below.

{Dare to Wear} White Jeans After Labor Day

This may just be my favorite outfit posts yet! It’s been about a year since I started this Dare to Wear series and started working with my photographer Audrey (her site is linked at the bottom of this post). This blog is almost four years old and now outfit posts have been a regular fixture one of those years. I’ll save my reminiscing for another post, when I round up all the looks from the last year. For now, let’s talk white denim! Yes, it’s after Labor Day and yes it’s a DO!

budget-fashion-blogger philadelphia-fashion-blogger

These jeans were not pricy and man do they look good. I snagged my pair a few years ago after a friend of mine told me how awesome they are for the price. Hey, cool white jeans are hard to come by, especially when you’re looking for a deal. There’s a couple rhinestones on the pockets, but they really blend in. Besides, the ripped details steal the show anyway.

 Style Tips

1. Make sure your makeup says autumn. A dark lip can really do wonders to transition a summer trend.

2. Add in texture. Fall is all about layering. Pair white jeans with a knit or flannel to play up the fall feel.

3. Dark hues are a do. Avoid looking like you’re a season behind by styling the jeans with a contrasting top. Try dark purple, midnight blue, hunter green, or oxblood red to compliment the white denim for the season.

P.S. The jeans are actually not the item that I’m daring to wear three times this month (though I likely will be wearing anyway). Check back next week to find out what item I’ll be wearing on repeat.

{Dare to Wear} Dark Lips + Fair Skin

So much for faux glowing myself before snapping these outfit pictures. When I picked out this look I wasn’t planning on appearing so pale. In fact, this maxi dress looks quite nice with a tan. I may like myself more with a little color, but like in life, you gotta do your best with what you’ve got. So I threw my arms up hoping I’d at least appear taller. Did it work?

Style Tips

1. Keep it casual with a jean vest to add a little coverage.

2. Skip lip gloss and opt for a tinted balm or stain. Gloss gets so sticky and makes outdoor enjoyments with hair down ultra annoying. I’m wearing FRESH Sugar Lip Treatment SPF 15 in berry. It feels like Chapstick, only better, and adds sheer color.

3. If you’re short try sheer. I’m a 5’3 so know the pain of not loving every maxi dress. That being said, we shorties can rock the style as long as the fit is right (should cinch to show figure), and a maxi with sheerness is a great way to show skin, break up the look, and also get a little breeze.

4. Make sure shoes match dress length. Flat shoes go with maxis that hit your ankle and longer maxis pair with heels or wedges with a complimentary height.

{Steal of the Week} Designer Sunnies on Sale

Oh hey, shady lady. It turns out today is National Sunglasses Day. I’ll be sure to mark my calendar for next year so it doesn’t slip my mind. I’m an avid sunglass wearer and rock every season since eye and wrinkle protection is kind of important. Sunglasses are one item I don’t love splurging on, but do like to treat myself to a nice pair (deeply discounted, of course) every couple of years. Sunglasses, like a your bag or shoes can really elevate your outfit. You can rock designer sunnies with a Forever 21 outfit and somehow your outfit looks more expensive, all thanks to the sunnies.

{Shopping Alert} C. Wonder’s Crazy-Wonderful Sale

Alert! Alert! There’s a MAJOR sale going on right now and it’s one you won’t want to miss, as the markdowns are seriously awesome. It’s the C. Wonder Big Wonder Sale and man, it’s good. I’m talking 50 percent off summer styles (YEAH!), 30 percent off bags, and 70 percent off final sales items.

I stumbled upon the wonderful sale this Saturday while styling a client. Wonder is a go-to shop for me to take personal shopping clients because the store is super cute and many have never been there before. The style is also appealing to many, as it’s classic and preppy with personality. Oh, and the price point isn’t bad at all for the quality and the look of luxe. That being said, the store isn’t cheap and rarely discount to this extent.

c.wonder sale

Walk into C. Wonder if you’re lucky enough to live near one and you’ll see, nearly everything in the store is at least half off – clothes, jewelry, bags, and home accessories.  There’s more on sale in store so I highly recommend visiting a brick-and-mortar location for this sale. There’s lots to choose from, but here are a few that have had my eye.

Modeling Peter Som for Kohl’s & Launching a New Biz!!

While in LA last week I got to meet up with my blogging bud Shauna Miller of Penny Chic. If you don’t already know about Penny Chic, then it’s a good thing you’re reading this. Like Trend Hungry, PC is all about looking good on a budget and shows ya how. Shauna styles bloggers and friends in affordable fashions and I got to be model for the day.

And guess what I got to pose in? A new diffusion line that I’m pretty pumped for, Peter Som for Kohl’s, which is currently on presale. The full line hits stores in just three days, but you can already shop a ton of the styles now, including the pineapple tank for $38.

Like my bling? It’s my own collection! As Shauna announced, I’m now selling vintage jewelry. I’ve always been a fan of vintage and would beg my grandpa to let me go in his basement (that’s where all the old jewelry boxes were stored). As a kid I’d sneak down to play dress up. My collection of vintage costume jewelry and accessories has really grown thanks to estate sales, sweet little old ladies at consignment shops, family members, and flea markets,  so I’m now selling it under that name Bling Babe! Oh my gosh, I can’t believe I just let the cat out of the bag! I’ll be selling at boutiques (starting with the Philadelphia area) and will eventually bring the bling online.

Bling Babe is super new so please follow online and give some love. Lots of updates on this will be coming soon. For now follow on Twitter & Instagram and shop the styles at Nich Boutique in Collegeville!!

Big thanks to Shauna for having me and styling, to her mom for the beautiful photos, and to my friend Kristen for being my sidekick for the day and snapping awesome behind-the-scenes shots. I’ll be posting lots of LA pics soon, promise!!

Head over to Penny Chic for outfit details and check out Shauna’s new book available for preorder!!

{Dare to Wear} High-Waisted Jeans

Hello fabulous darling! Lately I’m all about high-waisted jeans. They make your legs look miles longer and being that I’m only 5’3, that’s a major selling point. Not gonna lie, I have asked myself “how the heck am I going to wear these?” and “do they look like mom jeans?”, but alas, I still love ‘em. So for this next Dare to Wear series, high-waisted jeans will be the highlight. This style can be a bit intimidating, but quite complimentary if styled right. So own it girl, pin a picture if you like the look, and read below for shopping details and styling tips.  style-expert philadelphia-fashion-stylist simon-malls-stylist high-waist-jeans budget-style-expert-Jessie-Holeva

Style Tips:

1. Long necklaces do wonders for creating a long, vertical line. If you’re feeling like the jeans are chopping your torso, add a long necklace to help offset it.

2.Tuck it in. The high waist draws attention to the smallest part of your midsection so show it off.

3. Got a heel with a thick strap? Keep it from getting lost by giving your jeans a quick and messy roll.

4. Holograms are the new black. Not really, but they kind of really do go with everything.

Celebrity, trendy vs spendy

{Trendy vs Spendy} Golden Globe Gown Edition

By Tanya Kertsman

Watching the Golden Globes is a time to sit back and enjoy as the glamour unfolds. As I watched Giuliana Rancic interview one gorgeous celebrity after another, there was one thought running through my mind. How do I get myself into one of these dresses? We all know that many of the gowns seen during award’s season aren’t cheap. Here are some budget-friendly options to help you mimic the look without spending the money. Bonus, nothing on this list costs more than $100.

1. Hot Pink

I have to start with the lovely Maria Menounos, wearing a hot pink BCBG Max Azria Atelier gown. This lady knows how to work red carpets. The dress is a wonderful combination of elegance and edge. The strategically placed cutouts, vibrant color, and flirty train are just the right ingredients for a red carpet look. The gold accessories and clutch play off her skin tone nicely and create a very cohesive look.

Look at any photo from the night and you can tell how relaxed and confident she feels, making the look that much better. Check out this colorful Jill Stuart Option for$318 $79.50!

2. Royal Blue

Amber Heard flashed some Angelina Jolie leg in this flowing Versace gown. The one shoulder neckline combined with the extra high leg slit gives off a very Grecian vibe. Check out this one shoulder dress so you can create your own attention-grabbing effect. The royal-blue dress is currently on sale for $315 $81.99.

3. Purple Colorblocking

This two-toned Oscar De La Renta dress, worn by Aubrey Plaza, strikes a nice balance between feminity and playfulness.  The alternative is currently on sale for$195 $62.19 and has a delicate bow in the middle to create a visual separation between the two colors.

4. Black & Red Colorblocking

Taylor Swift is no stranger to vintage looks. The singer looked stunning in this strapless Carolina Herrera gown wearing none other but her favorite color, red. She wore her signature red lip with soft blond curls, which added to the retro feel of the look. This dress has the same colorblocking, but on a budget. The blog Penny Chic tipped us off to this style find for just under $28.

{Dare to Wear} Red & Green Outfit Fitting for the Holidays

Merry Christmas! It’s only fitting that this week’s Dare to Wear outfit be a little festive. I may not be rocking an ugly Christmas sweater or jingle-bell earrings (spoiler: holidays back home call for yoga pants or pajamas) but this look is comfy enough to wear to holiday house party or even to work.

This is look #3 for my Forever 21 tee-shirt maxi dress, and unlike last week’s outfit where I layered a skirt over the dress, this week I’m showing off the bottom and tricking the eye into thinking it’s a skirt. Maxi dresses are clearly versatile.

king-of-prussia-blogger on-air-style-expert-jessie-holeva While red and green may not be a color combo for regular wear, opposites attract and for this time of year it’s especially fitting. philadelphia-fashion-blogger-jessie-holeva
