{Dare To Wear} Holiday Dressing

Happy Holidays! Last night I shopped the new Century 21 Philadelphia store and snagged a few presents for myself. One of which is a new dress that came into my life just in time for this blog photo shoot and for holiday parties, talk about perfect timing. I love the fit, the print, the color, and I also kind of love it paired with the TOMs for Target sweater worn as a shawl.

I came home from the fruitful shopping trip, styled it, and headed across the street to my photog’s place. This shoot’s guest stars include her cat Tutty and an airy Christmas tree from Terrain.

{Dare To Wear} Match Your Bag To Your Beanie

Deck the halls, darling! For this photo session it was simply too freakin’ cold to shoot outside. Heck, it was too cold for tights. So we moved it indoors and I made myself comfortable at my lovely photographer’s place. She made me dark coffee with extra sugar and then snapping began, not a bad way to start the day.

Okay now, let’s get down to the outfit. If you haven’t guessed, the Dare To Wear item on repeat this month is the sweater. It’s TOMS for Target and so this gift I treated myself to also gives back. For items sold TOMs and Target are donating meals, blankets, and shoes to those in need. This blog has no affiliation with TOMs for Target, I just dig their vibes and philanthropic business model.

{Style Tips}

1. Sweaters and leather play nice together. Knits give the cozy feel, while leather (faux in this case) adds a sleekness. United they create a balance look — not too dressed up or edgy, or too relaxed. It’s the right amount of casual comfort with holiday sparkle.

2. Match your bag to your beanie. The beanie is on the casual side, while the clutch feels more polished. By both items being in the same color, it he3. Accessories with your hosiery. This is one are you can really have fun with and turn a drag dress to fab. I have tons of tights – colors, polka dots, stars, and more. Sometimes I go nuts looking for the right pair when getting dressed (I need to give them a proper storage space) but a certain tight can really tie a look together or add an unexpected element.

3. A little monochrome goes a long way. When people meet me that know me from the blog and on TV and social media, they are often surprised that I’m only 5’3.  This even happens at coffee dates with new clients. I’m actually flattered, as it’s a compliment to my styling skills. A black skirt + black tights + black boots = long lines. Elongate with this tip in any color. It even works with jeweled pantyhose.

4. Accessorize with your hosiery.  Add some fun hosiery to your style arsenal. The right tight can make the whole outfit. Don’t be afraid to try a print, color, or even bejeweled tights.

Three Ways To Wear Flannel

I didn’t think I could love it any more than I already did, and then November happened.

flannel-shirt-outfit-ideas

A flannel top is one style staple I can’t live without. I’ve been wearing the same one throughout the month on the blog, and even more in real life. It’s comfy, easy to wear, adds warmth, and is also crazy versatile.

See for yourself. Here are three outfits and a bonus look from Instagram. For more pics, styling tips, and outfit details, click below for full posts.

{Dare To Wear} Falling For Flannel

It’s that time, time for the third dare-to-wear look of November and this one may be a personal favorite that I rock often. Comprised of a flannel top, jeans, booties, and a scarf for warmth, this look was made for fall and takes me from running errands to lunch dates with my boo. I’ve worn this shirt a ton this month, but this combination is one I could live in everyday.

Styling Tips

1. Let the sleeves go long. Your mother will ask you to roll them up if you dare to wear this to Thanksgiving, but the unbuttoned sleeves make for a flowy and casual ensemble.

2. Big scarves and top knots play nice. Wearing layers near your hair plus dry winter air equals tangled tresses. Avoid the mess and opt for an updo when wearing bulky scarves or lots of layers near your hair.

3. Wearing the top untucked? Unbutton the bottom,  one of two should be good. Leaving a button or two open can prevent pulling and will keep the complementary lines flowing.

Fringe With Benefits

I’m completely falling for fringe this season. So, what are the benefits of fringe? It’s eccentric, adds detail, and infuses texture into even the most boring of outfits.

You can even wear fringe every day. Cut your hair and get a fab fringe…I’m totally pro-fringe ;).

Here are three fringe pieces under $50 and three quick tips on how to wear fringe:

fringe-under-$50

{Shop It} Missguided Ivona Black Fringed Faux Suede Jacket, $47 // Forever 21 Faux Suede Fringe Tote, $28 //

Urban Outfiters Geo-Fringe Triangle Scarf, $28

Although this trend can be super casual, fringe can go elegant as well. Case and point: Olivia Wilde wearing a vintage fringe gown at this year’s CFDA Awards.

Tip #1: Wear ONE fringe piece.

Too much of any trend is never good. Less is more! Just imagine a fringe jacket, fringe skirt, fringe scarf, and a fringe bag all in one outfit. Overload!

Tip #2: Go modern.

Fringe can be reminicent of the flappers and old western movies. Put a modern spin on it and go for a sleek look, such as pairing a fringe jacket with black skinny jeans. Très chic.

Tip #3: Choose a fringe that matches your face shape.

This tip refers to fringe for your face, aka bangs. Different face shapes call for different fringes. Here’s a hair guide that breaks it down.

{Trendy vs Spendy} Pleather // Leather

A wardrobe full of pieces that can be styled endlessly is definitely a Trend-Hungry-girl must (have  you seen the Dare to Wear column??). Faux leather is an affordable way to look chic and indulge in this fall trend – leather skirts. When the weather cools down throw on a comfy loose-fit knit sweater. The sweater gives off a super-casual style, so you can wear this from day to night. If you’re going for a more dressed-up look, pair your skirt with opaque tights and/or simple flat boots. The key to wearing boots with this is similar to Rule #1 from the Double Denim Trend: Mix your washes. Likewise, find some boots that don’t closely match your skirt.

Leather skirts can add some flair to your wardrobe, and all the Trendy & Spendy options below are so so so fabulous. Here are three different styles to choose from.

{Steal Of The Week} Francesca’s Dresses + BOGO Sale

Francesca’s is becoming more and more of a go-to shopping spot for me — probably due to the skinny-budget pricing and trendy styles. A few days ago I stopped by their King of Prussia location while styling client for her alma mater homecoming event and noticed they were running a BOGO special, buy one get one half off.

steal-of-the-week

So what to buy? I love this place for girlfriend gifts (make a mental note for holiday shopping) and affordable dresses. Dresses that can go from work to happy hour at a price that keeps you happy can be tough to find, but this store hasn’t disappointed me yet.

As for my client, she left with two dresses and accessories to match!

On to the dresses.

{Anella Lace Dress, $58.00} If you’re looking for a girly party dress, here it is. Save for a birthday or other occasion where you want the spotlight. Werk it, girl!

{Money-Saving Tip}

Buying a lot? Break it up in to multiple transactions. When you checkout with many items at once the discount will be on the cheapest items. Keep more money in your wallet by pairing items closest in price together for checkout. It may take a few more minutes at the register but is worth the serious savings.

Have you shopped Francesca’s before? Do any of these dresses call your name? Do tell in the comments below!

{Steal Of The Week} Kate Spade Friends & Family Sale

Oo-la-la, it’s that time of year. A slew of stores are running their Friends & Family Sales. Some make you actually be friends or family with an employee, but not Kate Spade. They’re letting everyone feel like family and score an additional savings of 30% off your entire purchase and that includes already on-sale items.

Just don’t forget the code at checkout: F14FFUS

This only lasts until Oct. 19th so act quick. It’s an easy way to stock up on holiday gifts for fabulous friends or just for treating yourself (no judgement).

As for the mint mojito bag, take special note on the serious savings you’ll get if you buy before F&F ends. It was originally $248 and after the sale code, you can have your very own Kate Spade cross-body mini (can you tell I’m in love?!?) under $70. Um, now that’s what I call a steal! The price is so good that if you buy this for a friend they’ll be seriously shocked that you got them this and will guess you spent a pretty penny.
