{ Dare To Wear } Three Looks, One Sweatshirt

It’s not every day we remix our wardrobes. Wait, yeah it is. That’s pretty much what getting dressed is. This month one quilted sweatshirt from Target took on three different looks (and many more that just weren’t documented). Styled with a mini skirt or layered over a Canadian tuxedo,  the sweatshirt added warmth and a little athleisure to each look. Here’s the images to prove it. Full posts featuring styling tips and product links are linked below.

{ Dare To Wear } Sweatshirt + Short Skirt

It’s January so obviously I opted for a short skirt and high boots. The Dare To Wear blog series is all about showing three ways to wear one piece so it was time for this sweatshirt I’m so obsessed with to be paired with something a tad dressier than in week’s past.

{ Style Tips }

1. Do a little tuck to adjust the fit. The sweatshirt didn’t fit quite as tight as I would have liked so I gave it a sublet tuck in the center of the back to change the way it lays.

2. Break up black by mixing textures. There’s faux leather, quilting, knitted hosiery, and a sweatshirt getting in on the mix to keep this balck from feeling anything but boring.

3. Monochromatic outfits mean the accessory options are endless. You can keep it simple with minimal jewelry, opt for a fur scarf, or go all put and intermix style accents.

{ Well-Dressed Man } Custom Menswear Shop Indochino To Open Philadelphia Showroom

Hey Philly peeps, custom menswear just got easy. Indochino is coming back to Philadelphia. The worldwide leader in custom-men’s apparel did a pop-up shop back in the spring of 2014 that was a huge success so they’re setting up shop at 1606 Chestnut Street in Center City. Opening Wednesday, Jan. 14th, the new showroom will be an extension of the brand’s web-based store and will offer men a face-to-face shopping experience where they’ll be assisted with measurements and customization options — including a wide range of fabrics on display, more than 30 suit customizations, and over 20 shirt customizations, including lapel width, buttons, pockets, monogramming, lining and more.

Indochino-Philadelphia

“Our pop-up experience in Philly in May 2013 was an unprecedented success and the city has since grown into one of our biggest markets,” explained Kyle Vucko, Indochino’s co-founder and CEO. “We knew it would be one of the first cities we opened a showroom in and can’t wait to be on the ground once again helping the men of Philadelphia look sharp and feel awesome.”

Last time Indochino came to town I got to cohost their opening and I’m thrilled to be teaming up with them again. Since then my man has become a fan and wears his Indochino often. A custom shirt fits drastically better and the price is comparable and totally worth it. Once he goes custom he won’t want to go back. Keep it in mind for Valentine’s Day.

Indochino-Philadelphia

The brand saves each client’s sizes, making the whole experience easy. Here’s some more info.

{ How It Works }

  • Men make an appointment at indochino.com/philly
  • Working with a Style Guide client is professionally measured before building their one-of-a-kind suit or shirt
  • Garment is crafted and delivered to the store or customers’ homes in approximately four weeks
  • Customers are invited back for a second fitting to make sure their suit or shirt fits the way it should
  • Once fit perfection has been achieved, customers may take home their finished clothing to wear with confidence — and they’ll LOVE how they look in it!

{ Trend Hungry Tuesday } Two Easy Outfits for New Year’s Eve

In less than 48 hours the ball drops and a new year begins. So the real question is, what will you be wearing to ring in 2015? I’ll make it easy for ya with these two quick outfit ideas.

{ Opt for embellishments. }

Why? Styles with sequins or beadwork, or both add the those special touches so require little accessorizing. Let the dress be the statement. Celebs opt for embellished looks all the time and know not to overwhelm the look with too much jewelry, including Taylor Swift and Beyoncé.

{ Dress up your jeans. }

It’s easy, comfy, and warm — three big selling points. Keep it cool and classy by taking a cue from Kim Kardashian West and opt for all-black everything, black jeans with a black shirt and top with a blazer or leather jacket. Keep the look from feeling too casual and by adding a red lip and chandelier earrings. Hair, makeup, and accessories play a major part in glamming up your laid-back look.

{DIY Holiday Decorating} Anything Can Be An Ornament

Over the weekend I started holiday decorating and let me tell you, it puts you in the best mood. So do decorate, don’t put it off. And don’t feel like you have to spend a lot. Save your dollars for presents (though those too can be DIYed, ahem, Sharpie Mugs) and use what you got.

Here’s a few things I did over the weekend to deck the halls without even leaving home. These ideas pertain to trimming the tree. Mine happens to be a fake one of the slim variety and came with lights.

DIY-ornaments

{Cloak With Glitter}

Glitter is gold for DIY holiday decorating. I covered floral decals that attach to shoes I don’t even own any more and bam, ornaments.

{Rework Old Jewelry}

As a vintage jewelry hoarder curator I do have some unrepairable pieces, plus I randomly save pretty things that I think may be able to turn into something. An old wreath pin missing stones becomes a wintery wreath ornament thanks to some nail polish, glitter, and a pipe cleaner for the hook. A tarnished dove necklace now hangs from one  of the higher Christmas tree branches. It’s only took some silver nail polish and shortening the chain. A star charm from a necklace and twine make another easy and unique ornament.

DIY-ornament

{Wrap It Up}

Presents under the tree instantly add the holly-jolly vibe. Since I was on a quest to fill up the bare branches and haven’t really shopped yet, I wrapped up a tiny case that earbud headphones came in and strung from the tree. (insert noise of the “That Was Easy” Button)

DIY-ornament-ideas

{String Things}

Got garland, a costume string of pearls, or even ribbon? Wrap around the tree. Or make your own. Paint popcorn with nail polish, let dry, then thread and string with care. Or even try a pasta garland. Or add string to something you’d to have for an instant ornament. I used some thread to turn my little macaroon trinket box into a Christmas decoration.

Ashley & Mary-Kate Olsen Create Cosmic Jewelry Under $40

If you’re a fan of Elizabeth and James jewelry get excited. Our favorite fashion twins and CFDA designers, Mary-Kate Olsen and Ashley Olsen have an affordable line worth adding to your Christmas list.

AMK x SM is a limited -edition jewelry collection for StyleMint. The out-of-this-world designs are inspired by constellations — hence the names Ursa Major, Hydra, Pyxis, and so on. The line really resembles the Olsens’ Elizabeth and James jewelry line. Both collections are simplistic and have a gorgeous cosmic theme. The main difference being the price — Elizabeth and James ranges from $95 – $395, whereas everything in the AMK x SM collection is either $29.99 or $39.99.

The accessories in their latest collection have a luxe feel, but all are extremely affordable, especially when you compare to one of their bags from The Row. Get ready to indulge and don’t wait, as past StyleMint jewelry collabs have sold out.

AMK x SM includes necklaces, earrings, rings, clutches, bangles, hand chains, and clutches. The collection is part of StyleMint’s limited-edition Studio Series, so you may not want to wait.

Another plus, the Olsens said they created “versatile pieces that transition easily from day to night”…can you say “Dare to Wear” worthy?

Style Tip: Because these accessories are minimalistic and dainty, it’s easy to stack and layer pieces. Pair jewelry with Flash Tattoos for a boho-chic look that not everyone will be sporting this holiday season.

{Trendy vs Spendy} Pleather // Leather

A wardrobe full of pieces that can be styled endlessly is definitely a Trend-Hungry-girl must (have  you seen the Dare to Wear column??). Faux leather is an affordable way to look chic and indulge in this fall trend – leather skirts. When the weather cools down throw on a comfy loose-fit knit sweater. The sweater gives off a super-casual style, so you can wear this from day to night. If you’re going for a more dressed-up look, pair your skirt with opaque tights and/or simple flat boots. The key to wearing boots with this is similar to Rule #1 from the Double Denim Trend: Mix your washes. Likewise, find some boots that don’t closely match your skirt.

Leather skirts can add some flair to your wardrobe, and all the Trendy & Spendy options below are so so so fabulous. Here are three different styles to choose from.

{Fall Faves} #2 Perfectly-Plaid Accents

Plaid always comes back around this time of year. From school-girl skirts to grunge-inspired styles, plaid is definitely on our radar for fall, and oversized tops we can practically swim in sound pretty amazing for heading to the pumpkin patch, shopping, or just chilling on the couch. Style it like Beyonce and tie at the waist.  Button it and pair with jeans, or tuck it into a circle skirt to polish it up. It’s enjoyable to have on, gives ya room for feasting (holidays are right around the corner!!), and rightfully deserves a spot on the Trend Hungry Top 5 Fall Faves.

Since we love this trend so much, here’s a swoon-worthy top that’s already limited in the red, and a couple cute accessorizes for plaid-on-plaid pairing — just imagine how cute you’d look with that LuLu’s weekender bag in hand with one of these oversized flannels plus the cell phone case while you finish drinking your Chai Tea Latte before boarding a plane to somewhere fabulous. Did I just vision board an amazingly-stylish situation? ( Note: I like to use “vision board” as a verb; it’s basically when I dream up things I’d want, though not necessarily do I physically put it on a vision board. I think saying vision board then the idea is hopefully just as good ;) )

Ahh! Okay, take a gander and these fab fashions, under $60 and stay tuned! The #1 style on the Trend Hungry Top 5 Fall Faves is coming up as is a giveaway!!
