SRS: The Subtle Statement’s Sale Shop Tactics

24 Oct 2012   Posted by Jessie  3 Comments

Hi everyone, I’m Brittany from The Subtle Statement! I have a passion for styling everything from clothes to cupcakes. I have a weakness for pretty packaging, bows and glitter, and endless bottles of nail polish. My blog is a collection of my personal style, favorite beauty buys and latest fashion finds, with a dash of healthy recipes.

I’m pretty skillful in scoring serious deals on fabulous fashion and I’m excited to share my tips and latest finds with you! Some of my most fashionable finds are scores from the sale racks, and that just makes them all the more special.

Shop the Unexpected: Browse the racks at retailers you normally wouldn’t shop. I’ve scored so many cute finds at retailers whose brand may not be my general style, but there are always a couple of gems mixed into their assortment that I love.

Sign up for the deals. Excessive emails can get annoying, but they can also be your token to savings. Staying in the loop with your favorite retailer’s sale schedule, is key for knowing the best times to shop.

Don’t buy yet. Living in a state with four seasons, usually means fall/winter knits are debuted before summer days have ended. While it may be tempting to buy just now, waiting it out will get you more for your money. By the time you’re actually able to throw on something cozy, it has usually hit the sale racks. Snatch it up then!

Get pinning.  Creating a collection of looks you love is beneficial to finding your style. Try to spot a trend throughout all of the looks. You might have posted five photos styled with a navy blazer. That navy blazer may be the missing wardrobe staple that will expand the rest of your closet.

Make a list. What does your closet really need? Take inventory on your current collection and make a list of the missing staples that will really expand your wardrobe. This will save you from buying too many cream cable knits and black patent flats. Download the ShopStyle app to “favorite” your top picks, and receive alerts when they go on sale!

Shop off-priced first. TJ Maxx is the number-one spot for my favorite finds. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve stumbled upon shoes there that were still on the Nordstrom sales floor full priced, but at TJ Maxx for 1/4 of the cost! They carry most of my favorite contemporary designers, and have some of the most unique items!

I just can’t get enough of fall’s hottest color. Oxblood has become a staple in my fall wardrobe. From tasseled flats to vampy nail polish, the wine-toned hue has basically become a neutral in my closet. I haven’t met a color that the shade doesn’t pair with. Coated denim is a fun upgrade to basic denim skinnies. When I spotted them in an oxblood hue, I knew it would be a perfect pairing for chunky fall knits. I tried them on and they couldn’t have a better fit. The best part about this chic staple is the $17 sale price tag! Check out the other fab finds that make the closet cut.
