It’s the first outfit post of February 2015 and in true February fashion, the item of repeat is one I fell in love with at first sight. It’s this Topshop vest and I love it for the clean lines, understated chicness and because it will elevate so many outfits, as I’ll be demonstrating throughout the month.
The term athleisure has been floating around the fashion world for a little while now. It’s fashionable activewear also meant for street style. Think printed yoga pants, varsity jackets, jerseys and more. It’s a growing category and brands are launching new lines and collections in this space. Heck, athleisure even hurt the sales for jeans.
There may be six more weeks of winter according to Punxsutawney Phil, but that shouldn’t stop you from springy shades. The color I’m currently craving is ultra-light pink, think ballet slippers or blush. Over the weekend I spotted a pair of jeans in the hue, then I wore a piece in the light and lovely color yesterday while shooting upcoming photos for this month’s Dare To Wear posts (disclosure: I usually take my all outfit pics for the month at once). Plus Valentine’s Day is right around the corner so this color is quite fitting to start wearing now to start transitioning into spring.
It’s not every day we remix our wardrobes. Wait, yeah it is. That’s pretty much what getting dressed is. This month one quilted sweatshirt from Target took on three different looks (and many more that just weren’t documented). Styled with a mini skirt or layered over a Canadian tuxedo, the sweatshirt added warmth and a little athleisure to each look. Here’s the images to prove it. Ear cuffs are becoming a hot statement piece on the red carpet. A few leading ladies rocked the jewelry trend at the 2015 SAG Awards. Emma Stone donned a white-gold ear cuff with diamonds by Repossi while Keira Knightley opted for a similar style by the same designer in a pink-gold finish. Rashida Jones dazzled in two blingy ear cuffs that’s reported to cost $130,000. Wow.
When it comes to hair, often the most complementary styles are nearly effortless. Case and point, Reese Witherspoon‘s low ponytail at the 21st annual Screen Actors Guild Awards. It works just as well on long bob as it does on really-long locks and only takes a few minutes to master.
Truth: I typically don’t think of a ponytail when I think of the red carpet, but you know what? It’s very clean, chic, and allows the person’s beauty to be the real focal point. Emma Stone also opted for the simple style with her short ‘do.
Ready to wear this red-carpet hairstyle in real life? Here’s how to achieve the look.
Forget Valentine’s Day and remember Galentine’s Day. It’s the fictional holiday created by Amy Poehler’s character on Parks & Recreation and it’s a day to celebrate your gals. Here’s a gift idea the ladies in your life will LOVE. The tutorial linked was found via Pinterest and created by graphic designer/mommy blogger Rae Ann Kelly, but I originally got the idea over the holiday when my friend stayed with me and had a set of hand warmers that someone DIYed for her – so thoughtful!
People go nuts for DIY gifts, especially when they’re awesome and these are. They don’t stay warm quite as long as a purchased heat pack but do the trick and cost little money and time to create. They’re great cold AMs on the commute or chilly PMs on the couch.
It’s January so obviously I opted for a short skirt and high boots. The Dare To Wear blog series is all about showing three ways to wear one piece so it was time for this sweatshirt I’m so obsessed with to be paired with something a tad dressier than in week’s past.
