{ Dare To Wear } Mustard + Olive

It’s fall. I’m thrilled! It’s only the best season for dressing. You can still rock warm-weather pieces on the hotter days, and enjoy layering up — my favorite. Here I’m happening to be wearing two shades I’m obsessed with for the season, olive + mustard. Continue Reading

{ Emmy Style } Fashion Favorites + Why I Really Watch Award Shows

I love watching award shows, and not just for the fashion (though I thoroughly enjoy that too!). What really gets me going is seeing people so humbled and grateful to achieve their dreams and be recognized for their work. It’s moving. The acceptance speeches and the energy of the night is unlike anything else. It truly leaves me feeling inspired —  inspired to dream and work hard towards my passions. Continue Reading

{ Dare To Wear } Army Green Gets Dressed Up

True story, fall is my favorite time for fashion and life. Am I ready? Oh yes! Bring on the crisp air and layered looks. First up on this month’s Dare To Wear series, a jacket turned top… because, why not?

{ Style Tips }

1. Snap it (or zip, or button). Belt it. Voila. Jacket is now a top. So easy!

2. Metallic goes with everything… which is why I keep these Call It Spring heels around. They really do go with SO much.

3. Glasses are an accessory. They also help you see. Mine happen to be fake. Sometimes ya just gotta rock specs.

{ DIY } Floral Styling On A Budget

How fabulous are fresh flowers? So freakin’ fabulous! They add life, beauty, plus a florally-fresh aroma to your space. The only thing is that they have a short shelf life. My solution, break up the bouquet and spread the natural beauty throughout your abode.

DIY floral styling

I like to purchase one bouquet from the grocery store  (usually around $8) and then do some DIY floral styling.  I did spend one winter break during college working at a greenhouse tending to poinsettias (so boring and so freezing).

Floral Styling

By DIY floral styling, I mean that I …

1. Take apart the bouquet.

2. Fill up an eclectic collection of bottles and cups with water (retro glassware and Starkbucks Frappuccino bottles make great mini vases)

3. Cut flowers and place into the various faux vases.

4. Enjoy! Place in different spots in your space (on the bathroom counter, nightstand, kitchen table, hallway, desk, coffee table) or use as decoration for an event. The eclectic and cute arrangements  would look fab as center pieces at a birthday or bridal shower.

So easy! Right? Only eight bucks and multiple floral arrangements to enjoy!

{ Best Dressed } 2015 MTV VMA Fashion

Last night I was glued to the TV for one of my favorite award shows. It was also in the name of research for this blog post and a VMA fashion recap with Fox29 this AM. Miley Cyrus had a slew of silly outfit changes, and I LOVED them all! Taylor Swift came with her posse of  gorgeous girls from her “Bad Blood” music video and owned the night. Justin Bieber, he opted for a new hairdo (or don’t) that resembles Kate Gosselin’s infamous cut. Yes, the MTV Video Music Awards went off with some stellar performances and styles to match. Here are my favorite fashions from the night. Continue Reading

{ Dare To Wear } Summer In Style

Oh look, a puppy! She calls me Aunt Jessie and she decided to step in and model. Turns out it was also recently National Dog Day (who came up with all these holidays?), so even more reason to have this adorable fur baby on the blog.

This top should look familiar, as it’s been on repeat on the blog and in my life. This is look #3 for August’s Dare To Wear series (see looks: #1, #2) and it’s one that I pretty much lived in all summer, and I mean lived in. From groceries, to the beach, to errands, to chilling, to blogging, this was pretty much what I wore … give or take a few accessories.

{ Style Tips }

1.  Shorten shirt with a half tuck. The tuck can create draping, which is very figure flattering, and allows me to wear a longer shirt with shorter shorts.

2. Big brims = less wrinkles. I love the sun but value my skin, which is why I wore this hat to the beach, pool, and even just around town. There’s something glamorous about a wide-brimmed hat.

3. DIY an outfit accent. It can be a homemade bracelet, key chain for your bag, a headband or whatever. What’s unique is what makes you stand out. In this case we used hand-made tassels courtesy of my friend Kate and she tied it to a chain from a necklace. Bam, instant and unique accessory.

Special thanks to Kate Michener for assisting on this shoot and her pup Maizy for gracing us with her modeling skills. Isn’t she the cutest?!
