{ Dare To Wear } Heat-Wave Chic

Philadelphia style blog

Holy hot temps! We took these pics in the summer swelter in the city of brotherly love, Philadelphia, of course! I love living so close to this amazing city, but dressing for these hot temps without showing too much skin can be a challenge. Makeup melts off and clothing must be light or else it will be covered in sweat. TMI? Maybe, but it’s true.

So when shooting these looks I knew they’d have to be outfits that could beat the heat. A cotton skirt + a tank top is about as easy and breezy as it can get. Add a few accessories and voila, an outfit fit for wherever the hot day goes. I plan on wearing some version of this again this weekend, since we are scheduled for some seriously steamy days.

{ Style Tips }

1. Hot temps call for light, airy colors and fabrics.

2. Outside for the day? A big-brimmed hat is a must-have accessory. It will help block the sun from your face and enable you to actually see in the bright sun. I ALWAYS bring a hat to the pool or beach so I can read my book or magazine with ease.

3. Afraid of long skirts? Look for one with a subtle high-low hemline to elongate. Plus it will allow you to show off your shoes.

4. A little pop of color goes a long way.

{ Dare To Wear } Yoga Pants as Real Pants

philly fashion blog

Hello, hello! How I’ve missed you so! I took a little break from blogging (most of May! eeee!!). That was the first time I’ve ever taken a real blogging break since the blog started over five years ago. Work got busy. Life got busy. I needed to reflect. I felt kinda burnt out and ended up getting a fever/bug/awful cough. I also went to Nashville for a Bachelorette weekend in honor of one of my best friend’s getting hitched (before I got sick). Now I’m back, feeling better than ever and am flooded with lots of content ideas so stay tuned for more regularly scheduled outfit posts, style tips, shopping guides, and even some beauty and lifestyle videos. I’m so excited to be back at blogging. Wow, it seriously feels refreshing to be typing again!

But, before I keep on blabbing here are some outfit pics from my last shoot with Audrey in Fishtown. This one required crashing a little kid soccer game. The field made for the perfect backdrop for this slightly-sporty style. how to wear yoga pants philly fashion blog

{ Style Tips }

1. Create a waist by tying a sweater around it. Ta-da, instant hourglass.
2. DO wear a dark lip in warm weather. It’s unexpected and feels a little edgier in the summer.
3. Infuse color to a gray-scale outfit by opting for a piece in a dusty shade, like a pale pastel bag, or a cardi in a heathered hue.

{ Dare to Wear } Retro-Inspired Ladylike Style

Jessie Holeva fashion blog 2016

I’ve always had a thing for retro styles. The circle skirt + this little jacket that I’ve owned for like 10 years = a ladylike look with a mid-century vibe and lots of personality, perfect for a bridal or baby shower. Note to self: remember this outfit the next time I’m running late to a daytime event.

{ Style Tips }

1. Like it? Wear it with confidence. It’s the secret sauce to any look.
2. Neutral prints play well together. The little jacket has a geometric pattern, while the skirt is a sheer plaid. Thanks to the muted color palette these designs aren’t competing.
3. Tuck it in. Turn your tank dress into a top by simply tucking it into your skirt.

{ Dare To Wear } Who Says Statement Accessories Can’t Be Casual?

Jessie Holeva style

Sunglasses: Check. Animal-print socks: check. Floral-embellished clutch: check.

I heart this look, big time! This outfit consists of neutral clothes and shoes that can go with oh-so much, and eye-catching accessories.

When it comes to clothes I tend to live in styles that are more on the neutral spectrum. Then I can mix and match, and wear tons of times. When it comes to accessories, that’s where I really like to have fun! Why? Because cute accessories seriously excite me! It’s also how I customize and spice up my style.

They even shared a behind-the-scenes snap to their Instagram. If you’re in the Fishtown area of Philadelphia do check it out. I quite enjoyed the vibe, the people working, and the iced chai. Thank you Rocket Cat Cafe!!

3. Jean jackets heart springtime. They’re light, go with so much, and have a way of infusing a casual vibe. It totally helps keep this dress from feeling fancy with all the accessories.

4. Funky sunglasses or a novel bag instantly add life to a neutral outfit... or any outfit for that matter.

Three Ways To Wear Gray Jeans

how to wear gray jeans

When it comes to jeans, I like to get a pair that I absolutely love and will wear a ton. I’ve always enjoyed wearing gray because of its cool factor and versatility, so I knew it was just a matter of time (and finding the right fit). My latest denim addition: gray skinnies from AG jeans that fit like a legging with a cool, deconstructed hem.

{ Style Tip } Go for the gray. It’s a cool neutral that can be dressed up or down.

{ Style Tip } Wear your dress over jeans. Now, this doesn’t work with every dress out there, but it’s a great way to get extra wear out of those styles that may feel a little short or revealing. philly street styles H&M style Philadelphia beauty blog AG jeans

{ Style Tip } A jacket with a draped front is an outfit power player. It’s crazy flattering on the figure, making you look thinner + taller.

{ Dare To Wear } How To Elevate Your Biz-Casual Style

Jessie Holeva Style blog

My work requires me to look pulled together with a stylish, creative flare and guess what? That’s what so many of the individuals I style are looking for — a bit professional with personality.  That’s why I am loving this combination so much. It’s easy to recreate and the statement necklace adds so much style. I’ll remember this pairing for a morning that I need to look the part but don’t have the time to dream up a new ensemble before I leave (note: I often have a few ideas of what to wear so mix and match before I head out).

How to style a statement necklace Jessie Holeva Style blog fashion blogger style tips LOGO links statement necklaces

{ Style Tips }

1. Button up. Yup, button up the shirt and wear the statement necklace over it. Now that’s a way to make a statement while keeping it totally professional.

2. One and done. Adding a bold necklace is a the quickest way to infuse fashion and creativity to your look. That’s why I am often with a few statement necklaces in my bag. Tossing one on is so simple and totally switches up an outfit.

3. A monochromatic color palette = a chic canvas. A fun shoe, jewelry, or nail can make it pop. Be an artist and start styling that canvas.

Business casual style tips

Like the look? I’ve filled the showroom below with stylish pieces that are similar to the ones I’m wearing. If you see me on TV or follow along on Instagram, then these gorgeous necklaces may look familiar. They are indeed from the brand that I’m so proud to represent on QVC, LOGO by Lori Goldstein (my 1 year work anniversary is coming up!). They offer seriously gorgeous statement jewelry in the LOGOlinks collection (and no, I’m not being paid to write this). I get to wear these beauties on air and get so many compliments on social media and in real life that I felt the need to share and style them here on the blog. After all, these outfits are made up of pieces that are really in my wardrobe and that I really love, hence all the repetition of certain pieces. ;)

P.S. Wondering what item is on repeat? There isn’t one. It’s actually a type of item — statement necklaces. I’ve heard so many styling clients and friends say that they love the look, but feared they couldn’t pull it off. Crazy talk! So I decided to style three totally different outfits showing the versatility of statement necklaces. Next one up involves stripes and florals, stay tuned!

 { Trend Hungry Tuesday } Tips To Mixing Prints Like Beyonce

Have fun with fashion. This trend requires it. It’s mixing prints together. So plaid and polka dots is a now a fashion DO as are stripes and floral designs. This is one trend you have to try to for yourself and a few celebs are showing us how it’s done.

Gwen Stefani always looks so put together but always with a cool, rocker edge. This past weekend she rocked striped sunnies with a dotted top and plaid pants.

Beyoncé is another who’s been into pairing prints lately and posted a few different outfit pictures on Instagram.
