{ Trend Hungry Tuesday } Black Leather + Gold Accents

Did you catch the big game? I pretty much only tuned in for the halftime show, as I was more interested in seeing what Beyonce would wear. She didn’t disappoint and even color coordinated ensembles with Bruno Mars. The attire? Black leather and gold accents.

Mars and his crew sported black-leather Versace shirts with gold embellishments and chains.

Beyonce took inspiration from Michael Jackson and wanted her outfit to be a tribute to him, wearing a black leather military jacket bold-gold hardware.

Try the trend:  I like this look for accessories. Then you can wear it often and with lots of looks. For leather, faux is the way to go to snag on a skinny budget. Below are some cool faux-leather accessories with gold details I found for under $20.

My favorite are the vegan-leather tassel earrings ($14) from Lulus.com.

{ Dare To Wear } The Bolder, The Better

Dear life, you are meant to be lived so I am dressing for the occasion! I wore this dress, necklace, and earrings for a recent TV segment on Fox29 (see: the look on Instagram). I threw it together early that morning, right after moving, so all my stuff was/is a bit in disarray. To my surprise, this bold look got lots of love. Note to self: don’t be afraid to be different. That’s what makes us all unique. Dress like the special being that you are!

So here it is, and it’s the very first look shot at the aforementioned new place.

1. The bolder, the better. The dress is a bit of a statement. A small, dainty accessory would get lost in the mix. The solution: other statement-worthy styles.

2. Break up a print with a vest. This dress was that item that I got, loved, but didn’t really know when to wear. When? Now, and whenever! The vest tones down the print and makes the look feel a little eyes dressed up, more for everyday life, which is the vibe I’m always going for.

3. More is more, but keep it manageable and versatile with a beau real color palette. Blingy accessories, a printed dress with lots of flow fabric, and a furry vest can seem like a lot, but notice the colors. There are colorful accents via the print on the dress and that gorgeous statement necklace.

{ Dare To Wear } 3 Tips To Dressing Warm

This is my first outfit post of 2016. Whoa. Does it count if the pics were taken last year? Of course it does!

A flannel shirt is a serious Jessie staple. Wear open, buttoned, tied, tucked, or even around your waist if you get a little hot. I usually fall in love with one, wear it to death, then get a new one and keep the oldie as my bumming-around flannel.

Since getting this one I’ve styled it for the blog and have worn it a ton in real life, hence why I bought it. Flannel can get a little fancy if you’re creative, and I love it for casual dressing. For this look I went for a more outdoorsy vibe, with thin layers to keep me warm without looking puffy. Hope you like and that you are staying warm! Style tips + more pics await those who scroll.  ;)

{ Style Tips }

1. Add warmth without bulk by wearing thin layers, like a flannel top over a tee shirt, and then topping it with a quilted vest. This vest is light and pretty much made for layering.

2. Oversized scarves = extra warmth. I hate a cold neck and a scarf really does keep in the heat. If you get hot take it off or wrap it looser.

3. Keep toes toasty with weather-proof boots. This practical tip is obvious and yet I see so many women wearing open-toe booties and super high-heeled styles, which is totally cool but not for being out and about (especially when it’s icy!) and staying warm in style. This year I made sure to get some practical boots and I must say that it’s a decision I’ve been extra happy with. Me cold = me miserable.

{ Trend Hungry Tuesday } Capes Win Big At 2016 Golden Globes

Celebs really brought the chic style for this year’s Golden Globes. One trend stealing the spotlight and making lots of best-dressed lists are capes. One of my favorite looks of the night, JLo rocked a yellow cape over the matching Giambattista Valli gown.

Regina King added drama to her metallic number with a floor-length white cape. Taraji P. Henson won in a white Stella McCartney gown with cape train.

Lily James and Jada Pinkett Smith got the memo on cape-inspiration and both donned dresses with cape details.

I love that this trend can be that bold statement for a red-carpet moment, or a way to keep warm in style. When searching for capes under $100 I quickly found that Asos has a seriously-stellar array to choose from, including a plaid cape with a hood on sale for $35.

Check out the showrooms below for cool capes to keep your warm, all from Asos, and under $100. One is filled with capes for daytime and the other is chalked full of cape-inspired styles fit for a fabulous event.

{ VIDEO } New Year’s Eve Dresses Sans Sequins on FOX29

Are you freaking out yet about what you’re gonna wear tonight? I’ve got some style suggestions sans sequins in video form and if you’re local to Philly then you can even stop by one of these local boutiques to snag the look for tonight! A New Year’s Eve tradition, Fox29 asked me to come chat fashion for the third year in a row, but this time to skip sequins. I do enjoy sequins, but we all already know about that trend. I was up for the challenge and knew some local boutiques would have what I was looking for.

{ Dare To Wear } Flannel Gets Fancy

Hello, hello and happy holiday to you!! I hope you’ve been enjoying this festive season and have been taking time to celebrate and enjoy life. I’ve been busy moving (who decides to move during the holiday season?! — not one of my brightest ideas), spending time with family, and connecting with myself.

A new year on the way always gets me in a reflective/soul-searching mood, so I’ve been on the blog and social a little less and looking within more. The result, lots of exciting content ideas and inspired vibes. Yes, giving myself a mental break has me feeling revved up, refreshed, and jazzed about this blog post.

Start scrolling. Style tips + pics await.

{ Style Tips }

1. Lengthen those legs by tying your button-up top with high-waisted bottoms. This instantly elongates your lower half and cinches the top in to balance out the proportions.

2. Mix casual with dressy. It creates balance. Need I say more? Wait, I will. I love fancy-looking pieces, such as the velvet handbag or chandelier earrings. I don’t want to have to wait for an occasion to wear special styles so use them to dress up casual fashions, like a flannel top. Then I get lots more enjoyment and use out of things I love. Philly fashion blogger style tips

3. Match and mix colors. The flannel has the blue shade that’s in the skirt, but that’s about it. The vest is gray. The bag (vintage, my mom’s from a high school dance) is a red velvet. The tights are a black print and the boots, they are a camel color. It may not sound like it would work to a matching machine, but it totally does. Which leads me to my next tip…

layering style tips

4. The only way to know is to try so try, and keep trying. That’s how outfit magic and life magic happens. I just finished reading Big Magic, so life is feeling extra magical at the moment and I plan on carrying that mojo into the new year.

5. Go big on the one piece of jewelry and keep the other bling at home. Less can be more, especially when it comes to statement styles. Wearing less jewelry can draw special attention to the piece that you are wearing.
