Alexa Chung’s Menswear Glam

Alexa Chung is like no other – kooky, elegantly disheveled, and always chic. Plus, she’s super entertaining, which is why she’s back to do another tv show. This time it’s on PBS and it’s about finding awesome finds at thrift stores, called Thrift America. The blog world finds this super buzzworthy and with good reason – There’s been a void in a hipster-chic cool chick to watch on tele since her MTV show On with Alexa Chung was canceled. I’m just now putting down my candy supply from the heartbreak of the cancellation.

This entry is dedicated to Chung’s carefree way of pairing menswear with feminine pieces. She makes it look so effortless.

Fast & Cheap Root Touchups

It’s official. The holiday season is in full swing. Santa is at the mall. People are already putting up holiday decorations. And radio stations are playing all the Christmas classics.

What this means is a busy schedule of working to pay for those presents, many celebrations, and making the traditional holiday preparations. With all the hustle and bustle you’ve gotta look your best but are certainly going to be short on time and cash. Here’s the quick hair-color fix I’m now in love with!!

Clairol’s Nice ‘N Easy Root Touchup kit saved me of awful roots when I was way short of time. Check the stats.

Time: 10 minutes, 15 for stubborn grays.

Cost: Around $6.00, prices vary store-to-store.

How To: Simply mix the ingredients in the mixing tray provided. Part hair in preferred style. Dip applicator in mixture and comb on roots. Hit your top spots with visible roots and wait 10-15 minutes depending on how stubborn your roots tend to be. Rinse and enjoy your fresh-looking color.

At-home upkeep is very trendy due to the awful economy. This kit is the real deal and it will make your color look fresh between trips to the salon or between at-home dye jobs. It’s easy, doesn’t make a mess, and super-cheap. I only wish I tried this product sooner.

Friendship Fashion

Remember those cute friendship bracelets and necklaces circa first grade?

Life hasn’t changed all that much since then. People are still cliquey and friendship jewelry is still on trend. Here is the friendship-fashion 411.

Ever hear of Frieda & Nellie? Me neither, until I read November’s issue of Marie Claire. They make handmade friendship bracelets that are to die for. They’re fun, bright, youthful, sparkly and completely embody everything I crave in friendship fashion, except the price tag minimum of $130.00. As cute as they may be, I’m just not going to spend that on a friendship bracelet. Here are the lovely cheap alternatives that don’t skimp on style.

For Mrs. Spell-Spell

Lauren Conrad wore this on the May’s cover of Glamour and it’s sold by Glamour. At $12.00 a piece, it’s an affordable bracelet for your bestie. Got lots of friends? Buy the pack of five for $50.00 and spread the love!

Details: Glamour Friendship Bracelet, $12.00,

For the Colorista

Details: Dogeared Friendship Bracelet, originally $50.00 now $24.90, Nordstrom.

For Miss or Mr. Popularity

These classics are $3.99 for a whole dozen. I’m honestly tempted to buy a whole dozen, wear four on one wrist and then recruit new friends. That’s how much I love these.

Details: Friendship Bracelet, $3.99 per dozen, Oriental Trading.

For the Crafty Chica

Someone had to make these bracelets. Who better than a crafty chica? If you’re up for the challenge, get a kit that explains how it’s done, or buy the string/beads/whatever you’d like and be creative.

Details: Style Me Up! Friendship Bracelets Kit, $11.09,

If you’re looking for a handmade-friendship bracelet or two that are unique are cheap head to There are so many choices and there’s bound to be something both you and your bestie(s) will like. Or just buy one for yourself. You deserve it!

Cape Trend on the Cheap

Love the cape trend, but not so much that you want to invest in an expensive cape? Me too!

The cape trend is way haute right now, but it seems like one trend without longevity. So, instead of investing in this beautiful, $400.00, Joie Prescott plaid cape (that you’ll probably wear twice), stick with something lighter on your fashionable wallet – like this plaid number from Forever 21. I’ve searched far and wide and this was the cheapest cape I could find.

Try a vintage shop or the salvation army. Many department stores are also selling capes, but this was the best bargain and one of the cutest.

Funny-Fashionable Greetings

This item isn’t clothes or shoes, but it’s definitely fashionable. They’re Blunt Cards, aka the perfect holiday cards for people with a sense of humor. Don’t send these out to the new neighbors, because they may take offense. Instead, send your college roomie this one.

Or check out this one.

Blunt Cards cut to the chase. They’re funny. They’re inappropriate, but still look classic chic. Send one virtually or through snail mail by visiting
