{ Trend Hungry Tuesday } Ear Cuffs Win At The 2015 SAG Awards

Ear cuffs are becoming a hot statement piece on the red carpet. A few leading ladies rocked it on at the 2015 SAG Awards. Emma Stone donned a white-gold ear cuff with diamonds by Repossi while Keira Knightley opted for a similar style by the same designer in a pink-gold finish. Rashida Jones dazzled in two blingy ear cuffs that’s reported to cost $130,000

{ Hair DO } Reese Witherspoon’s Low Ponytail

When it comes to hair, often the most complementary styles are nearly effortless. Case and point, Reese Witherspoon‘s low ponytail at the 21st annual Screen Actors Guild Awards.  It works just as well on long bob as it does on really-long locks and only takes a few minutes to master.

Truth: I typically don’t think of a ponytail when I think of the red carpet, but you know what? It’s very clean, chic, and allows the person’s beauty to be the real focal point. Emma Stone also opted for the simple style with her short ‘do.

Wear this red-carpet hairstyle in real life. Brush hair, part to the side, brush into a low ponytail and fasten with a hair tie. Next, cover the elastic by taking a small section of hair from the ponytail and wrapping around the hair tie. Secure with a couple hair pins or bobby pins by tucking into the base of the ponytail so that pins are hidden.

To get your low ponytail to look like Miss Witherspoon’s start with curled hair. I like to use an inch-barrel iron and go around my head curling away from my face, then gently shake out curls and lightly mist with a hairspray that won’t make it crunchy.

Play with it so hair is adjusted to your liking. Fluff the ponytail a pinch so that it’s a little messy and full or rub a little hair oil though the ponytail if you’re looking for sleeker style. It’s one style that can go dressy, casual, curly, wavy, or super straight.

{ Gift It } DIY Hand Warmers

Forget Valentine’s Day and remember Galentine’s Day. It’s the fictional holiday created by Amy Poehler’s character on Parks & Recreation and it’s a day to celebrate your gals. Here’s a gift idea the ladies in your life will LOVE. The tutorial linked was found via Pinterest and created by graphic designer/mommy blogger Rae Ann Kelly, but I originally got the idea over the holiday when my friend stayed with me and had a set of hand warmers that someone DIYed for her – so thoughtful!

People go nuts for DIY gifts, especially when they’re awesome and these are. They don’t stay warm quite as long as a purchased heat pack but do the trick and cost little money and time to create. They’re great cold AMs on the commute or chilly PMs on the couch.

{ Dare To Wear } Sweatshirt + Short Skirt

It’s January so obviously I opted for a short skirt and high boots. The Dare To Wear blog series is all about showing three ways to wear one piece so it was time for this sweatshirt I’m so obsessed with to be paired with something a tad dressier than in week’s past.

Oh hey kitty. Recognize the cat? It’s my blog photog’s and this not-very-furry feline has made a few cameos. (see past cat cameos: Christmas, Red-Coat Style) jessie-holeva-style Budget-Fashion-Expert-Jessie-Holeva Jessie-Holeva-Fashion-Blog-2

{ Style Tips }

1. Do a little tuck to adjust the fit. The sweatshirt didn’t fit quite as tight as I would have liked so I gave it a sublet tuck in the center of the back to change the way it lays.

2. Break up black by mixing textures. There’s faux leather, quilting, knitted hosiery, and a sweatshirt getting in on the mix to keep this balck from feeling anything but boring.

3. Monochromatic outfits mean the accessory options are endless. You can keep it simple with minimal jewelry, opt for a fur scarf, or go all put and intermix style accents.
